Tank is filled. Did you want it back this week or just bring to Hoptoberfest?mr x wrote:I think Jeff or one of the senior members would do a better job than me.

So that I can keep the sticky up to date, can you tell me what size tank and what the cost was? My 20lb needs to be refilled, seems like Brenton's is cheaper (and much closer to me).

Hoptoberfest is fine, unless you want to get it out of your hair, in which case you can drop it anytime. What was the charge?LeafMan66_67 wrote:Tank is filled. Did you want it back this week or just bring to Hoptoberfest?

Is Simplex open on Saturdays? I have a 15#er that I need filled and I only ever land in the city on the weekend.

Charge for CO2 is $2.25/lb plus taxes. 5 pounder works out to $12.93.

Great, thanks. Seems high though for a 20lber, unless things have changed since my last fill. IIRC, Breton's was in the mid $20's after tax, but a 5 lber was just over $20 lol, like some kind of volume discount.

Never had to fill anything other than a five - it's possible they discount it based on volume.

A 10lber at SG costs me $19 and change, so there must be some sort of a volume discount.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Thanks Leafsman, updated the first post.
Jeff, that was in Dartmouth, or another location?
I'd say the Brenton's price is something like a $20 fee plus $0.25/lb, though I'll confirm when I head up there.
The economics seem to switch at 10lb (below which it's cheaper at Simplex, above which Brenton's is best).

I wonder if they have a base service charge, and then go from there with the $/lb? I'd like to hear from somebody who had a 20lber done at SG.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
From Leafsman and Jeff, It almost seems like a similar equation to DB: roughly $5 setup fee plus $1.25/lb. 20lb would be $30 by my calculations.
That's using a linear equation (y=mx+b), don't think it would be of a higher order than that (eg, y=ax+bx2+c).

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Updated first post with prices I received today.
With tax, my 20lb was $27.31, and was filled by the time I returned from Unit 5 with the paid invoice.
My best guess for a 5lb at Brenton's would be $16, forgot to get that price, sorry.

I think the 5 lber is higher than that. I'm sure the last time I got a fill it was just over $20 with tax, but I'll check my receipts tomorrow night.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Thanks. With a 10lb at $21.85 with tax, I was expecting a sub-$20 price tag, but I'll defer to the actual price.
Either way, for 10lb and less, seems like SG is cheaper, and DB is cheaper above that. Both are better than a swap at NG, though maybe not as convenient for some folks.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
It was $20.70 for a 5# fill at Brenton's in March, taxes in. That, of course, ignores the pain & cost involved in getting to Lakeside.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Just called Clyde at Simplex Dartmouth - CO2 fills are by the pound, $2.25 per, and he says it doesn't matter what size. Hydros are $25, for the 5, 10 or 20.

Thanks Derek, post updated. There's definitely a difference between what he's saying and what folks are getting charged (for the better), so I won't enquire any further.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
I guess I'm not handsome enough to warrant the special price at Simplex, a 20lb fill was still $2.25/lb, so $51.75 with tax. But the fill was very quick, the paperwork took longer.
