The end is nigh for Pepsi/Coke kegs

Post by mr x » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:37 pm

Been hearing rumors that the kegs Pepsi has left will be destroyed, and not made available to the public. And that Coke is just starting to do the same thing. Anybody have any connections, know if this is true or not?

When pepsi first started the switch to BIAB, alot of them were sold to overseas to China as they wanted the SS. Coke will be doing the switch eventually, but they still use the pinlocks.....which will make it easier to grab a few nowadays....Ball locks have been out of the system for a while now, so supply is very thin.

I was under the impression that Coke will be sending them straight to scrap for liability reasons.

Interesting...never heard anything about that yet, hope it doesn't go that way though. With these still in use, if i was looking for some, i'd just stop into a coke distributor or talk to one of the delivery drivers when they're making deliveries...ask them if they have "extras". Heck, they may even sell them for the cost of the deposit..i dunno.. :?

The word from Coke is that they're switching over in March.

LOL!! watch the scrapyards, boys. That's how we scored all those Coke kegs form Newfoundland. A place over in Burnside sold them for $2 each.

Miles Snow saw them and filled and refilled his Taurus stationwagon several times.

This reminds me. Need to get Miles on here. And some other BrewNosers in exile.

I've heard recently that a Pepsi distributor in Cape Breton just purchased two new filling machines for their corny kegs, so that probably means they're not giving them up just yet.

FYI, The brew shop in the Hydrostone has about 30 pepsi kegs, they are about $45 each.
