120v external heating element.
I'm pondering the idea of using a couple 120v external heating elements to sit in my brew pot to speed up bring this to a boil. This will be for my 40 gal pot (25gal) batches. I know I won't always brew 25 gallons but will be good for doing group brews and how to brew days. Anyone have experience with these, and able to recommend a reliable unit?

Are you planning on using them in conjunction with propane? Unless you've got a really good way of insulating the electrical bits from flame, not sure it'd be advisable.

Yea no real means. Could I wrap it with a flame retardant fabric? Think it would be suffice?

You might be better served looking at heat sticks. That way your connections would be further away from the flame.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

FR fabric will keep it from bursting into flames but wont stop it from melting. heat shields and insulation would be better. for me personally more trouble than its worth. heat shielding around the pot/burner would be much safer and economical . a pice of tin wrapped 90% of the way around both would direct heat into the pot as well as leave rom for O2 to get to the flameKeith wrote:Yea no real means.
