341ml glass bottles?

Post by GuingesRock » Fri Jan 30, 2015 12:35 pm

Noble Grape has just stopped supplying these. Wine Kitz only has plastic. Can't get them online. Does anyone know where I can buy a few cases of these? It's the size needed to send to comps.

Thanks

You could try local recyclers?

Maybe you have friends or neighbours who have some they haven't taken back yet, or you could buy some full ones at the liquor store.

I think the idea here is non-twist off bottles, clean and clear of labels.

Thanks for those Derek, but the second one doesn't ship bottles and the first link, shipping costs almost as much as the bottles :(

Ed just emailed from NG. He is going to have a look for another supplier. His other supplier stopped stocking them.

Mark,
depending on how many you want to order, there are some cheap options available, but you would be buying a ton of them at a time. haha first entry on the site says minimum order 40ft shipping container.

.67 a bottle seems pretty steep. Is that NG prices or other retailers?

Thanks, that's saved the day. I don't suppose you know the story behind 341 mls, why 341? 12 oz is 354.882mls so it isn't that. All I can think is they are designed to hold 1/3 of a litre with room for headspace.

The Moskoka beer was a good idea, those labels just fall off when you rinse the bottle, and I liked the detour, haven't tried the other one mentioned.

From the Cowtown yeast wranglers competition ..."Each entry will consist of 300ml to 500ml capped bottles or corked bottles that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely. 341ml brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted." http://yeastwranglers.brewcompetition.com/rules" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can tell you that 330 vs 341 would never be an issue with any competition that I organize or judge in.

I'm not sure why the "preferred" note is in the rules at all. I can't imagine that they'd mark down a bottle for being delivered in a clear 500ml bottle.

While there are plenty who will use twist-offs, I use only pry-offs for bottling.

It sounds like HH and NG are able to get you sorted. If not, I have some you are welcome to.

341 ml is 12 imperial ounces, ie 12 Canadian ounces.
355 ml is 12 us fl oz
330 ml is one third litre, the most sensible volume

Now I'm worried again :( you can't get 500ml glass ones either unless you get swing tops. You can probably send 500ml swing top bottles to competitions, sure, but that's more beer and more shipping costs and more cost per bottle. I won't use the 500ml plastic ones again, they are permeable to O2 and my beer all oxidized after about 6 weeks.

There's trouble in paradise.

Thanks for the info Liam.

I was in Sackville NG on Sat looking for a case of bottles. Same thing is that they were discontinued and NG is unable to source any.
