Has anyone used this fermenter?
This is my 5th post so now I can get in on group buys lol.
Bought this in Portland Maine a few weeks ago and have never used it, was wondering if anyone else and what they thought of it. If you ever visit Portland this is the place http://www.brewbrewbrew.com/ really knowledgeable and great selection.

They were discussed as an option in this thread: 30 Gal Fermenter? and it looks like we've got at least one person here who uses them.

Great shop, ever improving selection of beers, and the Great Lost Bear (aka the Moe's Family Feed Bag of beer) is right next door! A must-visit whenever we're in Portland.

Re: Has anyone used this fermenter?
actually mumblecrunch this is not a 30 gallon container, its a 60 litre fermenter made by Speidel http://speidels-braumeister.de/shop/en/ ... tartersets which makes turnkey systems for brew pubs etc. This vessel can be pressurized up to 20 psi and is food grade plastic.
Just wondering if anyone on this forum is using them and their opinion on there functionality.

Scroll down in the thread he linked, Jamie D has the 120L version of the Speidel.

I am pretty sure that the Spiedel can handle 2 psi, not 20 psi.

Re: Has anyone used this fermenter?
yea your probably right, 20 lbs is a bit much, I did read it is airtight when all capped off,
it has lots of headroom for a 10 gallon batch, sturdy, so I am looking forward to
using it soon.

They've got pretty much unanimous glowing reviews at Morebeer.com.
I think that you're going to be happy with. Pretty much the only quibble people seem to have is that they're opaque, and you can't directly view fermentation. Other than that people seem really happy with them, at all sizes.

Re: Has anyone used this fermenter?
I have been using this fermenter (60L) since last fall (10+ times) and have successfully brewed 48 - 50L (collect 46L) batches with it. I really love this fermenter (bought at Morebeer.com) and the reviews are pretty good. I only use it for my primary and transfer to a secondary (dry hopping, etc...) after 5-7 days - just my process...
My two cents worth:
- easy to clean with PBW directly after use to clean foam/trub line. Remove rubber ring and soak all parts - better safe than sorry.
- I spray Star San inside and all connecting surfaces, valve, bubbler and lid approx. 1 hour prior to my next brew - air dry.
- I built a couple of moving plates, i.e. 3/4 in plywood with swivel wheels to move the fermenter around.
- Think about how your going to transfer liquid - I use gravity so I need help to lift the 50Kg to a countertop for transfer.
- I bought a second bubbler in case I got a blow over but have not needed.

Re: Has anyone used this fermenter?
Just about to use the 120 liter fermenter for the first brew. Will start chilling in approx. 45 mins.
