Bulk hop storage

i am going to take the plunge and buy some bulk hops to have on hand all the time. Most of the extract recipies brew lack that real hoppy flavour that I love. So my question is, if I pickup a 1lber of Cascade, how do I store it? I don't have one of those fancy heat/vacuum sealer things. I suspect with my brewing schedule, I would need to store some of it for 3-4 months.
Cheers

Vacuum sealer is really the only way to guarantee you're removing most of the oxygen from your storage vessel. I use a vacuum sealer with a mason jar attachment to store my hops.

If you don't want to invest in a vacuum sealer, get a large mason jar and purge the hops extremely well with CO2. However that isn't guaranteed but should help it a few months.

Liver Dance told me of using pop bottles and a carb cap to purge.

Exactly. Purge well with CO2, then swap caps to standard one. A brief exposure to air during the swap won't affect it too much.

chalmers, what size bottles were you using? I assume since you are purging with CO2 the size wouldn't matter, I've never used the carb cap before and would assume they fit most (or all) plastic bottles?

I use 1 liter and 500ml smart water bottles.
