First All grain brew in my new electric system....

Post by mindless2 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:48 pm

Hey All,
I just finished all my electric brew gear, and this week I'll be making my first brew in the new system!!
I used brew in a bag before, on the stove, so this is all new....
I just would like to know if there is anything I should look for (or measurements to take) in my "water" test run tomorrow???
so far I know the following... (Glad I have Beersmith to help!)

Kettle Dead Space 1.8l
Kettle boil off 9.65l/hr
HLT Dead Space 2.65l
Mash Tun Dead Space 4.4l

also If you have any tips.....

Cheers
Todd

Can't think of anything except get on and brew and get to know your new system. Looks exciting! What are you making?

2.5 gallon/hr boil off, seems quite high?
Why brew beer I can buy?

That was with a setting of 80% power on the controller ... Maybe I should drop it a bit more

When i upgraded my element to the 5500W one, i tested my boil at 5% levels until i found the lowest one that would boil it... then i bumped it up by 5 to be safe.

I'm using a Digital SSR Power Regulator for Wort Boiling Control on a 5500w element at 240v. Time to boil from cold is about 30min......

I ramp mine up to a boil at 100%, i only dial it back once it gets there.

Glad to see the new system worked out for you too.

When i'm doing a 5 gal batch mine boils between 70-75%, 10 gal batches 80-85% so i take it down to either 75 or 85.
