First time poster, long time lurker.

Did my second brew ever last night (Stone IPA extract clone).

Was out of the house most of the day and came home to the attached air lock blow off. Not that much mess, but I'm worried about possible infection (there were a few points during the brew that it could have happened).

Can you guys let me know if you think it's infected or just an aggressive fermentation.

I wouldn't jump the gun on infection. Clean up the outside and stay the course. Had air locks blow across the room before, beer turned out fine.

Looks like there's quite a bit of hop debris in the foam, next time, perhaps use a blow off tube rather than an air lock.

Yeah just looks like hops. You're safe. But yeah maybe clean/resanitize airlock. Or use a blowoff until fermentation calms down a bit.

Thanks guys. Reloaded with the airlock and it blew again. Rigged up a blow off tube so hopefully that will do the trick.

There is a ton of hop debris in there. Had a pretty good cold break break and then proceeded to transfer all the shit into the fermenter because I don't know what I'm doing.

As long as it's in a clean area and it's actively fermenting no bugs should be getting in.

Recently had a Kolsch blow up all over my fermentation chamber and it turned out to be one of our best brews ever. Don't worry, relax ... you know how the rest goes

Has happened to me a bunch of times. All was well with the final product.
