First DIPA

Post by Timelord_ » Fri Apr 29, 2016 9:10 pm

Tomorrow I am brewing my first DIPA recipe (Russian Doll from Brew Dogs). Is it business as usual in terms of fermentation, boil times etc?

Brewing extract, but have never brewed a "big" beer like this. Was interesting that Dave "prescribed" two packets of dry yeast

Note you'll lose alot of volume to trub. Boil times will be standard. Fermentation will go by expected final gravity.

Depending on ur ferm vessel. ..watch out for blow outs.
Not sure if u add o2 or not...but I find it helps the reach Fg. ..along with what dave would have been saying about yeast pitching rates. If u dot use pure o2...shake that bad boy up

Dave won't steer you wrong. 2 packages of yeast is pretty standard for a big beer around 5-6 gallons. More sugar to ferment so more yeast to get the job done. Look at your package of yeast and try and ferment in the ideal temperature range. I'm guessing US05 so 18-20C would be a good start. You will get more esters with a warm fermentation and you want a clean fermentation to let the hops shine. I like a 90 minute boil for an IIPA but with extract you could do less. Don't pitch your yeast warm as fermentation can get away on you. Enjoy your brew day. No better hobby on earth. :spilly:
