One Hit Wonder Limited Release Series 2xIPA
Hopheads Wanted
The first One Hit Wonder Limited Release for 2012 is Propeller 2xIPA (Double India Pale Ale) and will be available February 1st at the Propeller Shop in Growlers only.
2xIPA is a full bodied, unfiltered Double IPA that is brewed with ample amounts of premium Pacific Northwest Cascade hops and is paired with a rich blend of 2-row Pale and Crystal malts. Following fermentation it has been heavily dry hopped with Centennial hops giving this bold brew a big west coast nose. 2xIPA delivers a huge amount of piney, floral, and citrusy hop aroma and flavor from start to finish that is moderately tempered by a sweet malt backbone. If you are a "hophead", this one's for you; big, chewy, resiny and fragrant. At 8.3% alcohol by volume and 85 IBUs, Propeller 2xIPA is not for everyone… It is a TRUE hop bomb, for TRUE hopheads!
About the One Hit Wonder Limited Release Series: On the first of each month beginning February Propeller Brewing Company will release a unique one off brew. One Hit Wonder’s are only available in the popular Growler format at the Propeller retail store known locally as “The Prop Shop”, 2015 Gottingen St. Halifax Nova Scotia. The brewery will continue this limited release series until the busy summer season begins.
2011 releases in the One Hit Wonder series included Propeller Zwicklebier (an unfiltered lager), Propeller DIPA (India Pale Ale), Propeller Bock and Propeller Maritime Mild Ale (English Mild Ale).

Re: One Hit Wonder Limited Release Series 2xIPA
Thanks for the heads up, looking forward to trying this one.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

OHW's are small batches and one time releases. Having a label produced and firing up the bottling line for 1000 or so bottles just doesn't make a lot of sense.GAM wrote:Why no bottles?

Great! Do you fill anyone's growler or just your own. I think I can track down my propeller growler but it would be easier if I didn't have too.

Has anyone tasted any yet?
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

I'm drinking my first pint from my growler. I really quite like it! Lots of hop aroma, good mix of cascade/centennial. It doesn't have a bunch of IBUs, but that is fine, goes down nice.
They should replace their IPA with this!

yup, pretty much this. seems much better than i remember their effort last year. fairly easy on bitterness, lots of aroma. seems to have some distinctive malt in the background, no idea what it might be though.TimG wrote:I'm drinking my first pint from my growler. Re: One Hit Wonder Limited Release Series 2xIPA
I third what TimG and CorneliusAlphonse say. It was a very pleasant beer, and the hops didn't slam you right in the face, which probably appeals to their core audience a bit more than Nash's sweaty armpit stuff may.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

I like the IPA - I loved the DIPA, but it's never going to be something I drink regularly. If I want that much alcohol, I'll drink wine.TimG wrote:I'm drinking my first pint from my growler. Hard to say... We've burnt through about half of it, So I'd expect to make it to the end of the week (but of course can guarantee nothing). It all depends on Growler Wednesday.Bryan wrote:I will be in town next weekend (Feb. 10). Do you expect to be sold out before then ?

Re: One Hit Wonder Limited Release Series 2xIPA
LD and I cracked the growler during the hand-egg game last night. The bitterness was great, but I found the grassy aroma/flavour not to my liking. Once that subsided, the citrus hops came through nicely.

Re: One Hit Wonder Limited Release Series 2xIPA
I picked up two growlers over the weekend. The aroma was beautiful but it does have a rather grassy taste which I'm not a fan of at all. Still, better than last year's effort.
