Since were posting pics I may as well get a copy of mine in here. My pic doesn't do justice, however Derek's really showed it of. It's a real clove flavored sob.

Looking good, boys! We're sampling some of Mark's competition entry tonight. A nice, refreshing weizen with a tropical twist from a secret (?) hop addition.

Re: Garrison Comp
Looking good everyone....
Mine was good enuf to brew a 2nd time...and my buddy liked it enuf to brew it for himself...
Very simple recipe...but holding it between 21C and 22C helped balance the banana and cloves....left room for the saaz to show up to the party...

Late hopped (2 min addition) with Galaxy (no other hops/additions). I thought the Galaxy flavours might complement the yeast flavours.redoubt wrote:........ a tropical twist from a secret (?) hop addition.![]()

Ken, I mean KeithKeith wrote:Anyone know the final number of entries?

And just to set everyone's expectations, there is some preliminary judging going on tomorrow, however you WILL NOT be receiving any feedback until the Gala. Don't ask, we won't tell.
If you make it to the Final Four, you will receive a call the week of Mar 10 (or maybe late the week before) asking if you could bring some of your beer in for the Gala, to share with your fellow entrants.

I'm betting a fair bit higher than that considering how many were collected through Noble Grape.chalmers wrote: we haven't gotten the final tally yet, but I'm guessing it'll be about 60.

I wouldn't worry about it. You did good on the big spruce and that was worth you knowingly entering an undercarbed beer. I'm sure you'll do fineGuingesRock wrote:No chancemikeorr wrote:Garrison tweeted a short while ago that they have 76 entries; http://twitter.com/GarrisonBrewing/stat ... 7954582528" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI'm waiting for the next Big Spruce comp with 17 entries, or I'll pick a way out style and enter it in some other comp. IPA is the hardest as everyone does that. I'm thinking APA.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Question for the judges... How long until you drink your next weizen?

I have 18 gallons of Weizen here (I always do 10 gal at a time). It’s all I have on tap ATM as I was focusing on that. I’m getting to like it which is a bit scary. People came around today and seemed to like it a lot so I sent a growler home with them. There’s a risk it might become a regular brew around here.Keith wrote:Question for the judges... Mark,
If you have a preferred beer out of the 2, throw about .3oz of sweet peel and some coriander into it at the end of the boil, easy conversion to a Wit.

Re: Garrison Comp
You mean the next round of judging, cuz I just drank one of mine tonight (not entered, don't worry).Keith wrote:Question for the judges... How long until you drink your next weizen?

The Garrison crew is taking care of the second round, narrowing down the beers from the first round that got through, down to a Final Four. As for when they're doing that, I don't know exactly when that'll happen.
If this year is the same as previous years, the final judging will take place the day of the Gala.

Re: Garrison Comp
Just figured after sampling (not sure how many each judge sampled) that many Weizens you would want a break off them for a bit. But glad you jumped right back on the horse lol. Personally I think the only beer I could do that with would be a IPA before I'd start to go nuts lol.chalmers wrote: You mean the next round of judging, cuz I just drank one of mine tonight (not entered, don't worry).
