I entered as well. I like that it is pretty open to brew whatever you think will work with the yeast. Should get some pretty interesting entries.

It is an amazing yeast, an absolute beast. I badly wanted to do this comp, but couldnt sort out the logistics.

A buddy in Ottawa spun me off a small jar of this on his stir plate last year - I made a small starter in a 2l jug and it was already overflowing within 2 hours.

I made an IPA that turned out real nice and fermented clean at room temp - though this yeast can also handle really high temps as well I guess. It's super fun.

What other styles do you think it could work in?

I have done a ton of research on this the past week and it seems to lend itself to any Ale really well. It also likes to be under pitched and can tolerate very high alcohols. So for example you could do an 8% DIPA without any sort of starter or extra pitching. Apparently at high temp fermentation it does give off some fruity esters and lends itself to juicy beers. At normal fermentation temps it tends to clean up very well. I am looking forward to giving this a go, and put it to the test.

I'm planning to make a barleywine with it someday - take advantage of its high tolerance. I found while pretty clean, it does add *some* (pleasant) character from the yeast - would love to get a heat belt someday and try it at a higher temperature.

I've put my name down for the comp too, love the wide open style idea.
This is a beast of a yeast and the one I've gone back to for any recent IPA's. It works well with an underpitch and at seriously high temperatures (30+) the struggle is keeping it up high enough even with a heat belt! I haven't used it for any other styles but I hear it is extremely versatile and gives different characters at lower temp. At high temp it will be completely finished in a week so you can go grain to glass in 7 days if you really need to!

Was there anyone who missed getting in on this comp but still wants to get in?

I would like to get it, but I missed it. Is there going to be another chance to get in?

I think they are trying to get some more yeast. And when I was there today they said we could share yeast if we wanted. So if you want to pick up some yeast in a mason jar from me I will build a bigger starter and put some in a mason jar for you.

I would enter just to get the swag! Such a great deal. I've actually got some voss kviek in the fridge, but it's yeast bay, not escarpment (which I much prefer)

Excited as well, just like to say I'm a huge fan of these open style competitions. Is anyone fermenting it hot?

I did. The highest my chamber could get was around 87F. I took a FG today and tried a little and it was kinda sour, lol. Not sure how happy I will be with my submission.
