Is this for NBers only?
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

It is for NBers only. But we know enough people with NB addresses, right?

Somewhat disappointed in that rule. I wouldn't want to have a NS only comp. We could run beer through other people, but what if you win....

Yeah, a little disappointing that it's not open to all of the Maritimes. And like you said, if you win and aren't from NB......then what? But having said that, is Picaroons even available in NS? I don't recall seeing it anywhere when I'm in NS.

I'll no doubt enter for this one though just for fun.

Picaroons is in NS. Some NSLC and Premiere. It's good to be having comps, but for me, you want as many entries as you can get.

Also on tap at Maxwell's ... too bad on the rules - I like making ordinary bitters.

Good to know, I've never seen it available down your way. Like I mentioned earlier, it's disappointing that it's not open to all of the Maritimes. That's leaving out a LOT of top shelf home brewers.

Yeah, I read that Chris. My commercial gear is still a ways off from being operational and I'd be brewing on my normal home brewing gear. But I suppose that there still might be a conflict there though.....not sure. Hmmmm, but perhaps it might be best to sit this one out to not ruffle any feathers. :?

Wouldn't hurt to ask the organizers. I didn't want to scare you away, just didn't want you to get too far into the process and then get some bad news.

From the Info Sheet: "Commercial brewers or those training to become a commercial brewer are not eligible"

Shane, iIf you co-brew with someone else I don't see how would be against the rules. Better yet, use their gear too.

Worth asking - garrison added that statement to prevent Niagara College students in training from participating. As homebrewers, we could all be "training" to become commercial brewers!

I was slightly dissapointed with this event, received no feedback on my beer (after a few emails one guy said that they had lost the notes, while another said that no notes were taken during the tasting). Also heard a rumour from some of the attendees that the beer in second place was clearly a dry hopped IPA...

I'd be very disappointed as well with zero feedback given. Sounds like it was pretty poorly run. Were there any BJCP judges judging this?

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Still no news on the feedback, I guess I just have to submit my bitter into the next BJCP comp to get a decent feedback.
