Hmm so both the #1 and #2 beers did a decoction and both had awesome head retention. Not much of a sample size but it checks out.
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

Really good score sheets/feedback. Nice and friendly too. Thanks very much judges.

:cheers2:
Hrm... I think I know which judge said that! haha. I can remember that beer quite well actually. One of the small handful of beers that I actually drank the whole sample. It was one of my favourites of the day. Well done!

#2 was a step-mash according to the maker. Just sayin'.

Yes, BIAB.

Secret? *shrugs* Tried a few new things with this. Step mash. Used gyle (unfermented wort) instead of priming sugar. First one-stage fermentation as well (all in a carboy).

I'm sensing a cover up. There's a Midas touch coming from somewhere. Is it the rabbits? Kirsten is being awfully quiet about this. :)

 Yes...the real secret is to dunk rabbits in the wort! Two rabbits, one male, one female. This part is important. It's the extra rabbit flavour that everyone likes!

Hey folks
What a great night at Garrisons. First and second beers were fantastic!
My average score in the first round was 42. The last round I was picked apart, average score was 35.
I think I should have made this beer two weeks later. It really lost a lot in the end.
Met a bunch of really nice people. You guys know how to have a good time!

Really nice to see you posting on here again Ed. I've had some great chats with you over the past year ...love talking beer with you.

Congratulations :rockin:

It was you that recommended to redoubt they should join the Brewnosers. What’s their secret? It’s the rabbits ...right?

The pleasure is all mine Mark! It so great having so many passionate home brewers in the Valley. It's also great having the brewnosers. This forum is a great resource for brewers new and old.
Keely and Kirsten are fast learners! Alway have a new book each time I see them! Passion for brewing at it's best!

Congrats to everyone! I ended up with third. Not bad considering the 1st and 2nd place winners! I was disappointed with the Weizen I had left for sharing though. The long bumpy trip from Fredericton must have really shook the hell out of the 1/3rd of a full keg. It tasted much better at home off my tap more carbonated and well rounded. I think next time I'll bottle condition. It was a great time hope to see you there next year.

In that case... Yes, Mark, there *is* a big secret. Huge secret, in fact. Might even change the course of brewing forever. We should get right on this.
