Re: Garrison Comp
In the past they have announced the final 4 at the awards ceremony. I think they have even judged them that day.

Oh...then we should expect to know the final 4 before the gala?

Re: Garrison Comp
Sorry, I was confused. What I meant to say is the final 4 are judged the day of the gala and the winners are announced there. I'm not sure if the final 4 are announced to the public. Back in the day an e-mail was sent out to the final 4 before the gala so they could save some winning beer for the gala.

Re: Garrison Comp
As I previously posted (in this thread, I think), in the past they've contacted the final four late the week before, or early the week of, the gala.
As X said, there was no requirement to keep it a secret, and in the past folks have posted up the good news here.
(I keep saying "in the past", as there's no guarantee the timeline/requests will be the same this year, but probably will be)

Re: Garrison Comp
Looks like the preliminary results are out. Congratulations to those in the top four. I think it might be fun to go to this Gala.
Nice email ....
Nice email ....
Thanks to all for entering the 6th annual Garrison Brew-Off. The response this year has been overwhelming with 76(!) unique entries from throughout the Maritimes! Once again the quality level was high making it exceptionally challenging to judge (tough job but somebody has to do it!). Unfortunately, your entry was not chosen in the top four finalists however we truly thank you for participating and hope you'll join us for the big night!
As the Home Brew-Off has grown rapidly over the past few years, we’re always looking for ways to improve our competition & manage the growing interest - This year we have three rounds of judging. The first round was judged by a panel of 10 BJCP Certified Beer Judges. The judges put forward the top 13 entries to the semi-finals, which were judged by Brewmaster Daniel Girard & his brewers. As always, the top four entries will be judged by experienced beer judges before the Gala on March 13th, 2014. This means you will receive a minimum of three feedback forms from certified beer judges.
Here’s what you need to know about the Awards Gala:
Date: Thursday, March 13th, 2014
Time: Doors open at 7 p.m. – awards ceremony starts at 7:30 p.m. sharp!
Place: Garrison Brewing, 1149 Marginal Road, Halifax
Tickets: Each beer submission entitles you to two free tickets (extra tickets are $5 each). Upon arrival, you’ll sign in at the front and receive your 2014 Brew-Off shirt, 6-pack certificate and feedback from BJCP Certified Beer Judges
On Tap:
· 2013 Brew-Off winners Peter Welton’s Belgian Style Strong Ale
· Top four 2014 Brew-Off submissions (supplies may be very limited)
· A large selection of Garrison craft beers!
Please confirm your attendance by contacting Tracy at marketing@garrisonbrewing.com or 453-5343 ext: 225
Please join us in what will be a fun, social event launching the 2013 Belgian-Style Strong Ale and announcing the 2014 Home Brew-Off winners!
Cheers,
Tracy

Hmm, extra tickets for $5 - does this mean I could get a ticket to attend the gala even though I didn't enter the competition? Would love to be there for the event...

Re: Garrison Comp
Congratulations Kirsten and Keely. I think I said before I thought you’d be in there, actually I think I said you might win it. You did a lot of work researching it. Brand spanking new brewers too …that’s awesome (and very impressive). I’m so pleased. Yay!
Many congratulations also Roger. I looked up your previous posts and I see you have been brewing for 17 years and are involved in a new brew pub. I bet that's going well.
I learnt a lot about weizens, thanks to this competition, and I would never have even thought about brewing one otherwise.
Thanks Garrison and the judges that helped them.
