IMHO, the results should be announced all at the same time. Eg. In third place is …runner up is …and the winner is …Maybe I’m old fashioned.

I think you're referring to me, but I don't get the reference.

[Competition Open] ALES 2014

Post by AllanMar » Sun Apr 13, 2014 9:41 pm

I'd assume he's referring to the hissy fit he threw over the big spruce runner ups not being announced at the same time as the winner (too bad the posts were deleted).

I don't think you should be so ridiculously critical of volunteers .…maybe I’m old fashioned.

The guy sending them said he was going away last week so they would be delayed a week. Hopefully they're going out now.

Not a word. I’ve been told off for criticizing volunteer work before so I’ll pick my battles and learn to pick my competitions too. Sad thing is, I know the judges were thoroughly dedicated to helping fellow brewers and that’s volunteer work at its finest, and can’t be faulted. I’ve had to struggle on with my brewing without the judges’ feedback on my beer. Failed expectations are the worst thing in any relationship. Say at the outset if it will take a month or two to get results. Also, it’s like, if you didn’t place, then you don’t matter.

I emailed the committee. They got back to me fairly quick to tell me they were mailed out on Tuesday and they apologized for the delay. Better late than never!

Is that what they said when the rescue crews arrived at the Titanic. In my case, those reports would have saved a few of my poor beers

They'll still be extremely useful though, and I'm looking forward to receiving them.

They just posted on Facebook that they sent score sheets to local clubs instead of to individuals. Do we even have an address? I wouldn't know where to send something to us.

That's annoying, and lazy on their part. Last year (maybe ALES or another comp) I got a package with everyone's sheets, probably because a lot of Brewnoser's entries came packaged from me. If I get stuff for anyone out of town I'll send it out right away.

Score sheets were supposed to have been mailed out 12 days ago. Did they show up anywhere? My entries had been sitting around in PET bottles and were oxidized (didn't realize they had gone south when I sent them), so I don't really care. NG now has a bigger selection of glass bottle sizes.

I haven't seen them. Boo. Aurora, however, finished judging yesterday and I already have my scores. Not my judging sheets, but that's still more than I got from ALES.

I had one there asking OBK WTF was going on, but I deleted it myself as I didn't think it was their responsibility.

Possible that it was caused during the switch to the new hosting service? I assume they switch to an actual new server when they do that.

From ALES: Andrew - we noticed that. Although we tried to get int touch with someone out there to send them all as a package, we ended up mailing them directly to each of you just this week. Sorry for the delay. - Josh

Yeah, one of the posts that was lost was me bitching about that. Yesterday I think. I contacted them and they had basically fucked around "looking for a contact" to send everything - ie: not. Not hard to find us, nevermind our addresses, emails, etc on file.

Boo to that. I've been holding off on rebrewing on my brown ale until I got my comments to see how I could improve it. Now I'm out of session beer and am drunk. My BAC is on their hands. :chug:

Do you think they have actually mailed them "just this week"? Be interesting to check the post mark if they do show up.
