Hi we would like to announce the 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition.
The competition will coincide with the National Capital Craft Beer Festival to be held on the third weekend in August.
We would like to make this competition truly a national event, as such we've put together a dedicated team of volunteers from the Members of Barleyment home brew club in Ottawa and the Cornwall home brew club to help make sure the competition goes as smoothly as possible.
This will be a BJCP sanctioned competition, categories 1-23 will be accepted, no meads or ciders please.
There will be a limit of one entry per brewer per sub category.
The cost will be six dollars per entry.
We plan to have our competition included in the Canadian Brewer of the Year (http://www.canadianbreweroftheyear.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
and the Brewer of the Year (http://www.breweroftheyear.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) competitions!
Entries will not be accepted after Thursday July 17th. Drop off locations and mailing addresses will be provided in the upcoming weeks.
The winners will be announced on Sunday August 17th during the final day of the National Craft Beer Festival.
Participants unable to attend will be notified by email that their beer or beers have won.
We are currently working on getting some great prizes, we will have more details about this in the coming weeks.
For questions or comments feel free to contact me.
Thanks
Phillip

With all that grain coming in on the next group buy we should see a lot of entries from our club heading to this comp. I'll be sending in a few for sure.

Re: 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition
With all the trouble this comp has had over the past 2 years, it is finally out of JP Fournier's hands and under the care of Ryan Chaytor it may make it worthwhile to enter. The past two years it has been a clusterfuck of a comp with huge delays in prizes given out and even huge delays on the scoresheets being returned.
The prizes for last years comp still haven't been given out.

Re: 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition
I'm planning to send in a three. My favorite at the moment is my "Bramarillo" APA with the Bramling Cross, Amarillo, Galaxy (FWH, late and whirlpool) MO, Munich and Conan. I think it's the best beer I've made so far ...but we'll see what they say.

I may enter this one too with an American Stout and North German Altbier

I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber

What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

Re: 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition
I'm hoping to get some in this week. I'm trying to decide if my oatmeal stout is worth sending, but I just had a tooth filled, so
I'm somewhat handicapped at the moment.

Re: 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition
Thanks! I had planned on brewing a new ESB for this competition but didn't end up having time. So i'm submitting an oatmeal stout, robust porter, IPA, and specialty beer (RYE IPA)
The robust porter i have submitted before and it scored a 38 and a 36, the other three are first time submissions.

My first competition. Sent in my Pineapple IPA. Any sort of feedback would be great, but as they say... I brew for myself and I love the beer!

Re: 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition
I thought shipping from Saint John was bad, i bet from St John's it was terrible
I'm actually moving to St. John's in august and i was curious if there were many homebrewers over there.

Re: 2014 National Capital Home Brew Competition
Fack 21 for 8 days delivery or 37 for 3 days..... Ridiculous! And ya! I'm pretty new to the home brewing scene myself but there are a few Newfoundlanders here, and mainlanders, who brew in St. John's. I can let you know about supplies and what not if you PM me
