Finalists (top 4) are contacted in the week leading up to the Gala, so that they can bring their kegs/bottles to the Gala for all to enjoy. Expect to hear late this week/early next week.

So for those of us who didn't make it in, what did you brew? Mine was Agave & Lime Zest IPA, I really enjoy it but am going to turn it into a session ipa for the summer :cheers3:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

The one I entered had a 60 minute addition and a 10 minute addition of Bitter Orange Peel to play up the citrus in the hops.

The one I planned to enter had the same bitter orange additions, plus cocoa nibs (crushed and added after primary fermenter) as well as a tincture of bitter orange peel soaked in vodka at kegging time. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I didn't get it bottled in time to submit. It is the better of the two.

I added some homemade kombucha to secondary. Kombucha is a sweetened tea fermented by a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). I did a version where I pasteurized the kombucha before adding it and a version where I left the Kombucha unpasteurized. I correctly identified the outlier in a blind triangle test and correctly identified which was pasteurized and which wasn't very confidently. That was my first time tasting the samples as well. Submitted the version with unpasteurized kombucha as it showed off more of the kombucha flavour and was just overall a nicer beer IMO.

I heard around 40? But I wasn't there, so no idea if this is accurate or not.

I didn't end up sending in an entry again this year. It's hard to spare 6 bottles from a batch of 20 bottles on the best days but I had a lot of loss to trub on this batch given the large amount of mango and pineapple I used. I'm following closely though to see what the winning recipe is

I didn't make the cut either, I did 2 : one with jasmine and earl grey and one with juniper and basil. I liked them both but we're quite strong. Looking forward to the feedback!
