Brian had hinted last year that it might be something dark.

Are Newfoundlanders not allowed to enter this competition?

It says on last years form NS, PEI and NB only, however if you are interested in the comp you may be able to call and ask.

They have done the dark lager before so I'm hoping for a stout or a porter. I'd love it if it was an RIS.

It would have to be announced pretty early to get a decent RIS wouldn't it? My last two aged at Least 6 months before they hit their peak

Can't imagine they would pick an RIS. No doubt aging would benifit but I've made ones very drinkable in less than 6 months. Propeller has a RIS and Porter so I'm guessing they will not choose those styles. My guess is a lower gravity stout of some sort.

I'd be guessing something along the lines of an ESB, or possibly a mild. Time will tell. :cheers2:

They hinted at something Dark at the last comp.
They should give us the following years style at the brew off. That way we can get more prep time.

I'm excited and can't wait to get started. Does anyone know if they have any examples of this style at any of the private liquor stores in Halifax? I'm pretty sure there aren't any examples at the NSLC.

Finally a style I'm into. :)

Good luck boys and girls! These comps are extremely difficult to say the least, with about 70 entries.

And yes, very challenging. I've done the last two of these with varying results. Both times I put my heart and soul into my brew but haven't placed yet. Last year I messed it up bad, lol.

Can't believe I'm just about to keg my first attempt at this very style! What are the odds? I guess I'll have a reference point anyway to try to improve upon before the new year.

I look forward to giving this style a shot too!

I can't think of any commercial examples of robust porters that stood out in my mind.. any thoughts on a great commercial example of this style?

I think the only porter at the liquor stores here is fullers.

I just bought a London Porter from Fullers and a English-style Porter (made with maple syrup) by Rickards here in NL
