Knickerbocker Battle of the Brews - New York

Post by GuingesRock » Sun Oct 12, 2014 1:53 pm

This is an Experiment. I thought I'd try a US comp. I picked this one because it seemed very Canada Friendly. http://thoroughbrews.org/kbotb/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The deadline is Oct 30th if anyone else wants to give it a go.

I thought I'd report back with progress reports as time goes on, shipping costs, issues at customs, shipping time etc.

Entry online was just the same as a Canadian Comp, same price, same online form, even Canadian Provinces in the drop down menus when you enter your address.

The box size is 10" x 10" x 10". Five entries (10 small bottles). Dry stout "Black Gold", America wheat "Milky Way Galaxy", APA "Three", APA "Mellow Yellow", and blonde Ale "Tangerine Blonde".

This is one of those rare comps where you can enter more than on beer in each sub-category.

I will ship it on Tuesday as "yeast samples for analysis"

Thanks,

Called FedEx. Box weight 12 lbs. Cost for 4 day shipping $36.21 but I would have to drop it off at the Dartmouth Depot. I cant do that so I was stuck with 2 day shipping with pick up from my office. $125.94. I don't think I will be doing this again any time soon. It would be more feasible if a person lived by the Dartmouth FedEx depot.

This isn't going well so far :(

I'd feel better if I had some good beer to send as well. Nothing I'm sending is particularly great.

I suppose, as my father always said ..."experience is cheap at any price"

Live and learn.

Attached is the form you have to fill in.

:lol:

From Memphis Tennessee it went to Newark New Jersey, now it is in Latham New York. Must have cleared customs ok, unless they drank it and sent on the empties.

Only 237 entries this year. I thought it would be more. Last year there were 336.

They're judging today, all day, since early am. I'm shaking in my boots. http://thoroughbrews.org/kbotb/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They divided it up fairly evenly, about 20 beers in each group.
