Official details will be posted in the next couple of days, but myself and the Saint John Ale House will be hosting the first annual Hammond River Brewing homebrew competition soon. What I can say right now is that it will be a BJCP certified event, entry deadline is January 16th, it will be open to all NB homebrewers, and the style will be category 21b (Christmas/Winter Specialty Spiced Beer)

Shipping is what typically holds me back from entering competitions. However.... I could justify a little drive from Sackville down to Saint John with wife for a day trip. :)

You could always give your entries to Darren @ Ducky's as well since do regular drop offs of full and empty kegs. :)

Always an option. Or I could be a keg mule for a day too. tbd.

Didn't hear much chatter - hope the
NB Brewnosers put together a good showing.

I brewed a strong one for the comp and scorched the damn batch.. hard to dump a 9.5% beer down the drain :(

Sorry to hear Mark, that's always heartbreaking. What happened, was it sugar or extract syrup, or was it the grain itself?

Well this is an ongoing problem i have been having on both my 100L and 20L biab system.. i think the root of the problem is that without sparging you end up with a lot of matter in your wort that must increase it's potential for scorching. When making high gravity beers with a long boil (90 mins) it increases the risk for scorching. I have never had a batch under 8% scorch but three batches now at 9% have scorched on a 5500W ULWD and a 1500W ULWD element.

The third batch to scorch was just before i came back to NL at the start of January and i only ran the element at 80% power.
