I imagine we will see a similar slate of winners between these two comps and the yeast wranglers. It is always interesting to see how these close competitions turn out.

They always say results will be posted on or after a certain time (and they usually post before). Nowhere else could you get away with that. "I'll be sure to meet you on or after Saturday."

That's 'cause in the home brewer / craft brewing community, we are a very relaxed and laid back bunch!GuingesRock wrote:They always say results will be posted on or after a certain time (and they usually post before). I think they leaked the results of this comp, just got a tweet through brewosers. I'll post it here
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Thanks, but very disappointed I couldn't see any Brewnoser friends in there. Perhaps those aren't the official results. Thanks for posting Brian.

Thanks Guys!
Mark's IPA is a tough one to beat. That has to be a great beer.

Thanks Mark!
Your beer has been doing amazingly well, great work! It is especially impressive since your beer is traveling half way across the country.
Those 2 bottles of IPA were my last two from the batch that i brewed before christmas, i have another batch in the keg right now but the citra hops i used to dry hop the batch were local and not nearly as nice as the ones i normally get from Dave @ Everwood. Hopefully it doesn't pull the scores down.

Congratulations Mark, extremely impressive to see you racking up the points. You're going to have a houseful of swag by the end of the year too.
I find it extremely interesting to see the scores and results of the competitions. Your English IPA won gold at Mountainview and was your worst-scoring beer in Lethbridge. Could be a bad bottle, could be a huge difference in the judges tastes, I guess. Your Dry Stout was your highest-scoring beer in Lethbridge and yet it didn't win a thing. Meanwhile the Stout category wasn't represented at all in the BOS results. Lots still to learn before I dip my toe into the competition scene I guess.

Re: 2015 Lethbridge Werthogs WertContest Due Feb 27
It is hard to figure out why some beer scores well in one competition and not in another.
For example, i can't for the life of me figure out how my Ordinary bitter would have scored a 22 in this competition and a 35 in yeast wranglers. Same batch bottled the same day. The only thing i can think of would be the labels got switched. I would have said a bad bottle before but i drink one of these every night so the entire bottle batch is in the fridge and it is a fresh batch so i can't see it. The robust porter scored a 35.5 in yeast wranglers as well... definitely perplexed.

And that's one of the reasons I don't submit to competitions.GuingesRock wrote:LiverDance said it best ... "these competitions are a total crap shoot."
The idea behind it sounds great, but what is the point of feedback if it's all over the place like that? You can't really pick and choose which feedback is right/wrong, and you can't just chalk it up to a "bad bottle", or "problems due to shipping".
I'll continue brewing my beer and giving it to others for critical feedback. It's free, and you can talk brewing process/ingredients to help improve your beer.
