Are we doing medals or certificates similar to the other large comps by chance?

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
Fair enough. Like I said above, for a popular category like IPA, I would expect higher than 41 to take the prize.RubberToe wrote:Regarding the score, large categories were divided between tables to be judged and scored. Each table chose a couple for a mini best of show where the head judges of said tables got together to decide 1st/2nd/3rd/etc. So since they were scored by different groups you could technically score higher than someone who beat you.
On another note, if I didn't actually compete, can I get money back?

This has been quite a learning experience for the organizers/stewards/judges. Lets hope we can take all the good things from this year and all the ideas for improvment and make next years competition even better. To that end, we'd like your feedback on things to improve for next year. You can PM suggestions to me. Please include the point to improve and your recommendation for next year.

It might take a bit longer than I thought. There are alot of sheets to go though, but I'm working on it.Keith wrote:When should we expect the scoresheets? I'm in no crazy rush but want to improve my IIPA to get in the 40's. 35.5 has a lot of room for improvement and want to nail it.

Haha no worries. I have a large scanner at work I could use. Could do all the scans in record time and lump each brewers score sheets into 1 pdf.

I think I did 15 sheets in 30 seconds once. Biggest thing is that they are grouped by brewer. I'd be free in a hour.

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
Over 70 brewers, 300 or so entries, matching judging IDs to brewers. Sending 70+ emails. a lot to deal with.
All this is making me think about a 100% online entry / scoring / feedback system.

Yea I can only imagine. If they are sorted I could save you guys a ton of time. The copier/scanner at work is a beast.

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
I'd love to switch to using online judging scoresheets. My writing hand is still sore from the weekend - I haven't handwritten that much in over 20 years! I've started to use an online bjcp pdf scoresheet form when I taste beers at home and just save them to a folder on my HD.

Thanks to everyone involved for making this possible and congrats to the other winners. I love getting honest and direct feed back on my beer. I was pleasantly surprised with one of my entries. Looking forward to improving on each of them.

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
Be interesting to get an honest postmortem of the competition from the judges and stewards. What went right? What went wrong? Where did Andy's beers go? How might things work differently in a 2016 Brewnosers comp? etc.

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
Andy's beers must be with my Garrison entry Great job everyone, hope to compete next year
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I mean all that in the most positive way of course. It's only going to get bigger and better.

Yes. Process and venue are an interesting conversation. Glad to have all of then but a consistency would help, back stage.

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
It would probably be good to involve people who were not involved in the organization/running of the competition as well. Feedback from competitors & sponsors could be very valuable information for next year.

Re: Brewnosers Homebrew Competition 2015
Thanks for volunteering Sandy. Andrew Newton and I can't make it, so could you take some good notes. We've got a document of problems/recommendations to help make sure next year works even better, so having good notes from the postmortem would be quite valuable.GAM wrote:My house on next Saturday.RubberToe wrote:This is definitely going to happen.dean2k wrote:Be interesting to get an honest postmortem of the competition from the judges and stewards. Cheers,
Adam
*Edit: I meant to say once the notes are taken, send them to me and I'll include them into our document of problems/recommendations.
