Mike and I are brewing the Altbier and Dark Czech Lager this weekend. Just finished reviewing the recipes and adjusted based on ingredients we had available. We are both excited to brew this weekend. Going to be interesting to see what we end up with lol.

Any idea on who's all entering the comp? I know the Justin and Eric are entering from Brathair.

I'll be in again this year. Always a fun comp and now with an after party

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

And I'm sure I don't need to tell you that far too many commercial enterprises (like, say, the NSLC) just don't get that...

Thanks, Jeremy

BigSpruce wrote:Hey All - sorry I don't monitor this as often as I should. Thank you Chris for clarifying a few things. We're really excited to expand this competition this year. All 3 styles are personal favourites of mine.

I'm really hoping for as many entries as possible this year. I can't tell you how strongly I feel about the fact that more than any other group, home brewers feed the craft passion and growth in NS. I'm hoping to keep growing the competition as a way of promoting beer passion, but also as a way of giving back. That's why this year we will do a little gathering at Wooden Monkey Dartmouth after the judging and announcement of winners. All participants and judges are welcome. We'll provide some food, and if the Monkey will accommodate, I'll try and bring a keg of something special too.

We make a point of running our business without ever advertising or marketing. We turn down dozens of advertising opportunities every year. I'm not sure we'll always be able to be like that, but for now word of mouth and good beer is plenty enough to sell everything we make. I make a purposeful exception about advertising when it comes to supporting home brewing, and always will. This is why we fully sponsored the amazing Brewnoser competition this year. I just strongly feel that helping you all is less about advertising and more about giving back to a group of individuals that support our business and NSCraft more than the average craftie!

So get brewing, and I'll see you at the Wooden Monkey end of November!

I'm doing a RIPA and an Alt. It'll be fun. Thanks for putting this on.

It's coming up for time to send these in. I sent mine off to Big Spruce today (RIPA and Altbier). Jeremy said he had lots of cold storage there.

Good luck all!

As a reminder, I am the HRM drop-point, so please contact me to set up a date/time. Entries accepted until Nov 27th, but don't be afraid to get them to me earlier, to ensure life doesn't get in the way.

I brewed a RIPA for this and thought my entry would be un submittable, a couple pours and my nice red IPA was constantly dark brown in the class.. It goes without saying I hopped the day lights out of it but I didn't think it would turn brown!!

Turns out I had a poppet problem and way too much sediment from the secondary

I had full intention of submitting my Red IPA to this comp...but I drank it all. Saved myself $25! :rockin:

Was it good?

That nearly happened to mine. When I came to keg there was only 1/4 batch left. I wasn't the only culprit.

Just dropped our entries off.
Eric and I each entered all 3 categories...and our buddy entered a red ipa.

Is everyone putting in for all 3 categories?
