I'm here for a week (unexpected trip). anyone have some must sees?(breweries, brew pubs, beer lists, or beer stores. or food related as you see fit) requests for beer to bring back for a meeting or trade? hoping to stop by Beau's on the way back if they're open. haven't yet looked at the beer map, but figured I'd give people as much notice as I could.

I went to
Brasseur du Temps last time I was there. It's definitely worth a try. Mill Street has a pub on the Ottawa side.

Pub Italia is a great place to stop for a pint.

I definitely agree with Kyle's suggestion (the others are great too!). The Arrow & The Loon (Bank & 2nd I think) sells cask ale, and Manx has great food & some craft beer around. Also,
see here.

If you can get to Gatineau (and some have already mentioned why you should) definitely check out this place:
http://www.lautreoeil.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Literally hundreds of beers, pretty cool atmosphere (it's basically a beer bar that is in 2-3 rooms of this old house), and the food selection - while small - was quite tasty and really well-priced when I was there.

wicked. I am thinking I'll borrow a bike and go tour around that side of the river. brou ha ha is about the furthest from where I'm staying in Orleans, so it'd be about 50km round trip - not bad at all with a few stops

Another suggestion: The Black Tomato (in the market). I've never been, but I just received a report that they have some microbrew on the go.

Black Tomato is OK. 10 taps with about 4 locals. I was underwhelmed.
In the Byward Market area is Vineyards, a wine bar. But they have ~10 taps and a decent bottle selection.
But my faves have already been mentioned: Brasseurs du Temps and Pub Italia.

Big Rig Brew (owned by Ottawa Senator Chris Phillips) is brand new.

Apparently, #4 is trying his hand at growing hops for the brew-pub too:

Was just in Ottawa for an extended long weekend and hit up several great beer/food spots.
Mill Street Brewpub - They had 10-12 different Mill St brews, 4 of which are brewed on-site and the rest in Toronto. Really enjoyed the Helles Bock in particular. Food was ok. They messed up our order a bit, which is a common complaint there apparently. Mill St. was also the beer at the Ottawa Folkfest so I was happy to drink Tankhouse while catching some great music.
Pub Italia - Has been mentioned before. Worth a visit. Huge beer list, maybe even a little bloated.
Kichisippi Brewery - Did the brewery tour. Really enjoyed their Uncle Mark’s Hopfen Weisse seasonal.
Smoque Shack - Fantastic BBQ joint with 7-8 Ontario microbrews on tap.
Brother's Beer Bistro - New place in the market. They have a huge tap/bottle list. Some of the imported stuff was way overpriced due to heavy taxation (eg: Rogue bottles for $30+). They have weekly casks on Thursday but we missed that unfortunately.
The Rochester - Tiny pub in Little Italy. Great tap list though. They happened one of the few lucky bars to have Creemore Altbier on tap. They're going to start having casks soon too.
My favourite beers of the trip were Beau's Altbier, Kichissipi Hopfen weisse, Flying Monkey Netherworlds (Black IPA), and Muskoka Mad Tom IPA (enjoyed the draft much better than the bottled stuff I had last year).

Dropped into Brothers beer bistro when I was in Ottawa last weekend.

I was really impressed with the place. Prices were a bit high (think Cafe Volo) but the selection was great. The waitress was obviously trying to get to know her beer, and was very helpful and beer chatty (although not hovering). I had a beau's octobock, which I thought was supposed to be a bock. I was really craving a nice malty, pre-dinner beer but it was way out of character. Lots of spicy hop notes, quite a bitter bite and possibly some brett. I told the waitress, she happily took it off my bill even though I had 1/4 of the bottle already. I will definitely be going back. Girlfriend had a bottle of Affligem Dubbel, always nice.

I was at the Mill St Pub last night, and it's worth checking out just to see it. It's a beautiful bar (both levels). They do have some seasonals on tap that aren't listed in any menus, so make sure you ask. There's an Imperial Stout (double chocolate) and an IPA for sure. 3 of us at all table had an extra drink added to our bill so keep an eye on them! As noted above, there were also some food screwups with us.
