I'm pretty sure Presidente is the only option for beer, however anyone know of any hidden gems (beer stores) in the DR?

Nope! I ran across a beer that wasn't presidente, but also a shitty light lager. I just drank a lot of rum ('gasoline' was the good shit)!

Eh, if you're by the pool you're not drinking for the taste, you're just drinking because it's cold and wet.

I crave IPAs in warm weather, so when I was in Cancun last spring I went on few futile trips to find something hoppy. Had little luck, but managed to find some sweet Caribbean stouts, and very malty Mexican craft beer.Best beer that I had over there was a belgian dubbel that I found at a bar. I recommend taking few hoppy beers along :spilly:

Yup, I totally recommend bringing along some beers from home as well. When I went to St. Lucia back in November I brought along a bunch of craft beers from the Maritimes. I ended up giving a couple away to the locals and they thought they were strong as fuck. I won't go anywhere in the Caribbean without bringing some beers from home.

My wife packed the suitcases to the 9s with kids clothes to drop off to the poor families. So there was zero room for beer. Sacked it up and drank some rum when I had enough cerveza

So you were there already, Keith? I'm leaving on the 12th for a week and I'm sure I can get... wait for it.... Coors Light at the resort I'm staying at, lol. I was looking at some of the pictures of the place and did notice some sort of Bo-Pils in the room fridge though. I hope so, not really struck on Corona. I'm supposed to have premium liquor, so I hope that includes more than el presidentie and Coors Light.

Going for the water sports, so there won't be as much drinking as I would do normally.

At the resort I was last at they had the higher end booze but they had a Bohemian Pilsner that was very tasty still a light body and fairly low hop but I enjoyed it more than the presidente.

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about. this one http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/bohemia-es ... lic/12261/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Keith I bet it's warm there now. My sister is in the air right now on her way here from Florida, and it was nice all the while they were there. I'm hoping for all clear weather. 8-)

Yup that would be the one. It is nothing but a session really, but I did enjoy it much more than the Presidente....although I did drink my fair amount of Presidente while I was there. Have you stayed at the resort you are going to before?

Nope, my first trip to the DR. I'll be at the Now Larimar.

If you are interested in going off resort head to Dannys sports bar, it is a favorite of expats and gives you a bit of the local experience. I think it is quite close to Larimar if I remeber correctly. and no matter what people tell you it is quite safe to go off resort if you use common sense.

It's sketchy as fuck at night tho. Lol. I wouldn't go off site after 6 without a group.

I doubt I will be going anywhere off the resort at all, unless it is for a game of golf, but fuck that is one pricey game. Might be a tad rich for my taste, but you never know ;)
