2015 Advent December 10 - "Central Street" Brown Porter

Post by Hub Brewer » Sun Dec 06, 2015 11:56 pm

Big thanks to mckay75 and Woody for helping me get this beer ready and down to y'all in time. I brewed it in mid October then found myself in the middle of a family emergency. I asked if they could take care of it for me, and without hesitation they took over. I actually still haven't tried it (or any of the advent beers for that matter). Mark says it's tasty so that's all I was hoping for. I used the same recipe and got a silver in this year's brewnosers comp for porters. Hope it turned out as well. I don't have all my numbers with me but here's what I managed to come up with:

21L batch

4.2 kg Marris Otter
500 g Brown malt
500 g C60
350 g Chocolate malt

Full volume mash at 152f for 4 hours, cause that's how I roll.

60 min boil
63 g Fuggles (4.1%) @ 60 min
16 g Fuggles (4.1%) @ 10 min

WLP013 London Ale
Primary 14 days @ 19C, then force carbed in keg and bottled with beer gun.

OG 1.051
FG 1.013
ABV ~ 5%
IBU 33

Impressed you stuck with the advent. This Porter is signature Pete. Love the malt profile and english yeast flavour. Your a hell of a brewer my friend. Oh and Michele loved it as well.

Smooth and creamy with rich flavors, great beer! :cheers3:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I quite enjoyed this. When I first tasted it cold, it presented more as a stout, with the roasty flavors most prominent. But as it warmed it got creamier. Thanks much.

Deep dark brown. No head retention but fairly carbed. Smells like a good porter. Smooth roasted malt flavours. Touch of sweetness. A solid and tasty porter. I'd gladly have another if I had one on hand. Thanks for the brew!

Yup Enjoyed this one too. One of the better homemade Porter's I've had. Creamy.
