Amber Ale (Root Beer) Recipe

Post by whitnes10 » Thu Jun 09, 2016 3:57 pm

Been playing around with BeerSmith, as my buddy wants a Root Beer Ale, similar to Not Your Father Root Beer which he tried in the Orlando.

I've come up with this, from research and feel. Any thoughts on how this will turn out?

Bitterness: 20.3
Color: 14.7
ABV: 5.4

Extract and Grains
1lbs 2.8oz Caramel/Crystal Malt (60L)
8oz Cara Pils Dextrine
5oz Caramel/Crystal Malt (30L)
7lbs 8oz Pale Liquid Extract

Hops and Additives
1.17oz Willamette hop (60min)
.920z East Kent Goulding (30min)
1tsp Irish Moss (10min)
1oz Sassafras Root Bark (5min)
.4oz Target hop (1min)

After Boil
US-05 Yeast
1oz Sassafras Root Bark (Steep in 1 cup of boiling water for 5 mins, then add after Primary Ferm)

Thoughts?

I was also thinking of during secondary to add a bit of Vanilla Bean and possibly Root Beer Extract.

Let me know.
