Amber Ale Recipe Thoughts?
I've never made an amber ale before but wanted to try one out. Not really sure what to use for hops. Figured amarillo would be fine. Thoughts?
8.75# 2-row (76%)
1.25# amber (14%)
0.5# crystal 30 (7.1%)
4oz Black prinz (2.3%)
~30 IBU
1oz Amarillo @ 60 8.5%
.25 Amarillo @ 30 8.5%
.25 Amarillo @ flameout

Color: 14SRM

It's strange, but I don't ever recall seeing a recipe that uses amber malt to make an amber ale, lol.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

yeah I realized after Googling other recipies as well. I might drop the amber and subbing with some darker crystal malts.

I don't think it would be out of place, just don't use 14%. Maybe 5-7 with other crystals...?

My 11.5 L batch off all grain red (darkish amber in reality when I bottled it last Friday)
50% Canadian 2 Row 1.5 kg
34% Marris Otter 1.0 kg
8% Amber Malt 0.25 kg
7% Crystal malt 60°L 0.2 kg
1% Chocolate Malt 0.025 kg
Northern brewer 15g 60min
Simcoe 5mg 45min
Simcoe 10mg 6min
Simcoe 15mg 0min
Wyeast 1056
Will see how it tastes in few weeks. Pretty hoppy though.
