Looking for a partial kit, *keiths flavored*

Post by patman » Thu May 22, 2014 12:52 am

So i am looking for a kit or what ever to make something as close to "keiths" as i can. Thats my beer i love it. My first home brew which i am currently drinking *hence spelling issues* is good, but tastes more like canadian than anyting.. This was a Canadian cream ale, where i had to steep the grains for 30 mins, then do a boil with extracts, *forgve me if i sound like a novice because i am* ...

Is there a specific kit from a specific company? or a recipie i can walk into like nobel grape or wine kits o where ever and pick up everything i need to make the closest thing to a keiths i can? SOMEBODY HELP ME :)

Festa Brew or Brew House are the two easiest ways to go. The NG PM kits have a light Canadian ant that could worrk too. Talk to Dave at Everwood and he may be willing to help you out.

With any low flavour beer process is key. There is nothing to hide small flaws.

The are a couple of "can" kits that were supposed to be similar to Keith's. Morgans used to have one but I think its been discontinued. Munton's makes one just for eastern Canada that implies it is similar to Keith's.

I have never tried either, so I can't comment how close they actually are. I would definitely stick to the kit instructions to use 1 kg of dextrose to keep the body light. Dextrose is actually part of the Keith's recipe.

Keep in mind you are trying to simulate something extremely refined and controlled. I'm not sure there is an easy way to reproduce that kind of industrial beer to the level you seem to be looking for.

There was apparently a debate about how to clone Keith's on here a few years ago. Before my time as a Brewnoser, but it might be of help to you now:

Good luck!

I don't mind a little work, its the name of the game, my first batch was an extract batch i guess you call it or partial extract? i had to put grains in a cheese cloth bag, let them steep for about 30 mins, bring that to a boil for an hour, adding the hops, and all the extracts, put it in the fermentor, and then topped it up with water..The fiesta brews look pretty cool, but i decided to start mid level so that i can eventually get to where i can make it from scratch. *something to do with the zombie apocalypse and being happy* . I will check out some of these kits thou and see what i can do, i find the canadian cream ale that i did for my first batch tastes more like canadian draugh than anything.

this reply leads me to believe that you believe festa brew is somehow less than extract or all grain. In reality a beer with this delicate a flavour is very difficult to consistently repeat with home brew methods as Mr. X pointed out. Festa kits are all grain kits and are quite fantastic. The festa brew dry kit is similar to what you're looking for and can likely be altered to produce a Keith's like lake that is very repeatable

This is what I have that would be the closest. It's no Keiths, but it's a nice light ale with a slight hop finish.

If you find a recipe that you want you can always bring it in or email it and I'll make it for you.

Thanks
