You'll need an N2 tank which is basically the same as a CO2 tank but with a different valve, then an N2 regulator, then a nitro faucet lol. Anywho, I might have a spare N2 faucet or 2 I could part with, I have my own N2 tank and regulator but no spares, that said an N2 regulator is exactly the same as a CO2 reg with a different nipple. 'Beer gas' tanks, nipples, regulators are of N2 designation - all identical. Also, N2 is 80 x less soluble in beer than CO2 so you need some high pressure compared to CO2 to get the job done, around 30 psi. Nitrogenated beers do contain some CO2, about 0.5 VOLS. I have had reasonable success in the past by carb'ing beer to the 0.5 VOLS of CO2 only before I bought an N2 tank, that coupled with driving it through an N2 sparkler faucet under high pressure CO2 without ANY N2, only good on the short-term though.Garak wrote:My next question is where can I get some nitrogen gas in Halifax other than from the 400lbs tank at work?

I call bullshit, totally wrong way to do it, 2 vols of CO2 is too much unless you like to totally scrub the beer plus deal with tons and tons of wasted foam. Also, the regulators are CO2 regs with a different nipple but it'll need to be fairly high pressure, like 2000 psi opposed to 800 psi, a male with rubber o-ring instead of a female with the teflon washer. I might have some N2 regs kicking around.Garak wrote:Yea I was just looking at a few setups online, I found the tanks, regulators and other components but the tanks come empty. From what I've been reading you force carb the beer with two volumes of CO2, release the CO2 and then serve with N2 at 25psi.
The lack of a regulator concerns me though.

Re: Anybody got a good oatmeal stout recipe?
That was on a forum post I came across. I might have read that wrong.
The lack of a regulator was referring to the first cartridge based injector I linked. The second one interest me though. Right now I don't have a kegging system at all here in my apartment. I'm using my friend's system down at his house where we brew. I put it all together for him, I didn't have the money at the time to get one for myself. I'm thinking of going in on a 50lbs CO2 tank with him, force carbing my kegs on his system and then serving from cartridges here at my apartment. Cartridges would make it easy to switch to Nitrogen to serve stout. Cartridges are also great for camping. Not the most economical way to go but it might work out ok in my situation.
Still need a stout faucet, the creamer taps are not the same thing are they?
Its going to be a little while before I start putting money into this. The new job doesn't start until the 18th of april and I already have plans for the first few pay cheques
But I eventually be interested in buying one of your extra taps.

Creamer faucets aren't the same at all.
I'd be saving for a tank or 2 of your own and skip the cartridges but that's just what I'd do. Don Breton might be able to hook a fella up with a 20 lb N2/Beer Gas bottle for a decent price. FYI when you force carb and serve with N2 it's gotta be a blend to get that bit of CO2 in there and keep it in there, usually 75% N2, 25% CO2.

This might help you out, depending on how you decide to proceed:
