2016 Advent - Dec 4th - Witbier - Hit The Deck

The fun really began when I was very low on time and ended up with not enough volume. I had to rush to makeup a quick hopped wort with a similar specific gravity to top up my volume. It was tasting very good at bottling time so I cannot wait to pop one open for quality control. :D

Enjoying this brew now before my Steelers take the field, lots of coriander spicing as well as a touch of orange peel. Might get a slight bit of oxidization but that maybe due to the introduction of alternative wort to bump up the volume. Thanks for the brew
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

This one checked all of the boxes for me. It disappeared very, very quickly. Love to have more.

Witbier is one of those styles that I have a hard time with. Something about the orange peel puts me off. Really enjoyed to bready malt in this, and the crisp and effervescent finish. Nice beer overall
On tap: Hopped Mead, ESB, Schwazbier
Coming up: Altbier
Fermenting: Maibock
Planned: NEIPA, NZ Pils, Oyster Stout

A bit clearer than I'd expect from a witbier, a bit too much coriander for my preference - but as it warmed the peel was able to shine through in a way that brought it back into balance and made it pretty damn drinkable overall. I second the oxidation comment but its not enough to stop me from finishing the glass in any way (and I'm pretty picky these days about not finishing a beer if I think I could/should be drinking another beer instead). Overall I think a bit more finish hop character, a bit more peel, a bit less coriander... I don't mean to come off like I'm ragging on the beer here (as I said, perfectly drinkable) I just think you could be onto something really great here if you just worked on making it taste fresher with more hop and peel "zip" to it.

I thought it was a solid beer. I'm not a big witbier fan usually but I liked this.

Enjoyed this, nice wit. A bit forward on the coriander as previously mentioned but nothing over the top.
Thanks!
