Coconut Additions

Post by velvetelvis » Mon Feb 20, 2017 6:50 pm

I just brewed up a smoked porter and was hoping to add a light coconut nose. My plan was to rack onto a pound of toasted coconut for a secondary. I really have no idea what an appropriate amount of time or coconut to use is. Anyone have any experience with this?

I toasted some coconut for an ipa that turned out great, make sure you get the sulphur free coconut ( i got mine at bulk barn) toasted it till slightly brown at 180F and put it in secondary for 5 days.

Awesome, I picked up 2 pounds of unsweetened from bulk barn. How much did you use?

For the secondary I used 12oz but I also had 12 oz in boil as well.
