Target hops substitution

Post by mddionne » Wed Nov 01, 2017 10:28 pm

Hi,

I've been using target hops as my bittering addition for English style ales, with good results so far. Unfortunately, they are not easily available locally in the Halifax area. Can anyone recommend a decent substitute that is easily obtainable locally? I'm aware that I would have to adjust the amount used based on AA%.

Cheers!

Check out this chart...

Says you could swap with Nugget, Fuggle, WIllamette, or Admiral.

Are you just using them for bittering at the start of the boil? If so not much taste will survive. You could probably sub in most high alpha varieties and not notice a difference.

Agreed. I used to use Warrior for most of my bittering additions. It was cheap, and high AA.

Thanks for the input! I will probably try to use one of the suggested substitutions rather than go for high alpha hops, even if the difference is only in my head. Now to adjust a few recipes...
