I know Steve at Noble Grape on Quinpool made a tangerine porter, you may want to contact him.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

The Tangerine Porter is probably the one from Radical Brewing (great book).

I did some research on the subject at one point, and the recipe that I had wanted to try was http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/tried-t ... as-139912/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks Seanstoppable...that recipe looks yummy! But is it possible to replace the lactose in a recipe that calls for it? If so, what would be a suitable replacement?

You can replace lactose with Splenda, bit I'm not sure on the amount. One thing to note though is that Splenda won't give you the same fuller mouthfeel that lactose will. I'd highly recommend going with lactose if at all possible.

Splenda, ok, I'll look into the amount necessary! Lactose could be possible, but I don't want to risk not being able to drink a whole batch of beer! lol

Are you worried that the Lactose would ruin the taste of the beer? Or are you thinking about those that are lactose intolerant. The only things lactose will add to the beer are a small bit of residual sweetness and make it feel a little bit thicker on the tongue. I used a pound of it in my chocolate milk stout last spring and could barely tell it was in there.

Yea, I'm lactose intolerant...I've tried La Vache Folle Milk Stout before and it made me sick because it has lactose in it, which I didn't realize until after I drank it. lol

Oh wow, yeah, definitely stay away from lactose then. :sick:

You could use Splenda for sweetening and maybe some maltodextrin for extra body possibly?

I have made this before Becky:

http://www.stonebrew.com/epic/wc6297b16717fd.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It takes a lot of orange to come through in a stout IMHO, 5 grams/gal should at least be doubled.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:
