I brewed this about a year ago, and have decided to tap a keg for the Christmas party. Sipping on one right now - it's dark like a black hole.
Pale Malt 73.1%
75-80°L Crystal Malt 10.4%
Chocolate Malt 5.4%
Belgian Aromatic Malt 4.3%
Dark Candi Sugar 3.4% (added to boil)
Black Malt 1.7%
Carafa Malt 1.7%
6 grams per gallon dried tangerine peel
0.5 grams per gallon vanilla bean.
French Oak Chips: 4.5 grams per gallon
I threw the vanilla bean and oak in the keg and left them there.

Now I understand the 09.09.09 comment about my beer haul! I'll check when I get home, perhaps a trade can be arranged.

Hey X - Im going to brew this up in the near future after hearing many compliments about yours from the christmas party this year. Did you make any substitutions (if you recall)? Mostly curious about the dark candi sugar and the dried tangerine peel - don't recall seeing them at NG and wanted to get your thoughts

I believe I made my own candi sugar (now I would use the D2 from NCM, or use rubbertoe's method). Use any orange peel, it won't matter AFAIAC, I probably used regular orange peel. Keep in mind it has taken a couple years for this beer to really shine.

cool. homemade was my thought, as i did some and it turned out alright. and glad to know the particular citrus shouldnt matter too much.
my plan is to bottle it and stick it in pictou for a while so i won't be tempted. christmas time i'll try some and see how it is.
