When I judged it I thought it was black patent malt, but when I review the recipe I see there is none. So the roast barley is likely the culprit, with it and the chocolate that's 2 kg of roasted malts. And maybe use some flaked barley, not just oats? That can help balance that tartness a bit. And maybe a little higher mash temp.

Thanks folks.

I will make this again and try your advise.

But 37 is a great score for a beer I had to "through in"

Amazing tan head rose like a nitro poured stout. Nice tight bubbles. Roasted malt and floral/citrussy hops on the nose. Creamy mouthfeel with lots of malt to start and hop bitterness to finish. I didn't find the astringency, but i do like strong coffee. Delicious and clean.

Thank you!
