2019 Advent - December 12 - Rockey Hammerhead's North End India Pale Ale
This one is based on an IPA recipe Phyl and I have been using the last few years. It is hopped with our hops (Hammerhead) and fermented with the classic NEIPA yeast (Conan).
It was intended as a double IPA but the efficiency was much lower than expected. I believe it was because of my new grain mill, which I am still getting used to. Nevertheless it's still in the range of an IPA in terms of ABV but a bit high in terms of IBU.
I bottled this one on November 22, so it needs conditioning time in a warm environment before opening.

Nice hop aroma and flavour. Carbonation was tight as well. The bitterness is a little outta balance, of course like you mentioned it would not have been so if the grain mill wasn’t give you problems. there’s a slight medicinal aroma and flavour that leads to a astringent finish. But that just me being picky.
Thanks for the beer Kyle, Kim and I are enjoying.

I'm afraid our bottle was pretty badly infected and we had to dump it

Enjoyed this beer last night. Nice Carb, nice head. Lots of hop aroma and flavour. I also got that medicinal aroma that Glen got but it wasn't off putting and I wasn't sure what it was. Thanks!
Kegged: Maritime Fog (NEIPA), All Ryell'ed Up (Rye APA)

Didn't notice this thread before it got put in the fridge where it stayed so I didn't realize I hadn't let it condition before I opened it. My bad!

I got the medicinal part but I actually liked it.. Kind of gave it a Belgian feel. I enjoyed it!

Mine was carbed quite nicely with a big pillowy head. Bitterness is a nice change up from many IPAs these days, even if it is a touch high for a single IPA. Definitely getting some medicinal phenols here, but you could have told me it was a Belgian style IPA with an appropriate yeast and I probably wouldn’t have batted an eye. Thanks for sharing.

I messed up this year by not covering my bottles, so unfortunately all my green bottles are badly skunked, especially the hoppy ones.
I could taste that something good was in this one, but unfortunately the light-struck smell was a little overpowering.
I'll do better next year.

Lots of nice hops upfront. Great carbonation. I'm getting almost a powdery fluffy mouthfeel. The beer is full bodied. The bitterness could be bumped up a tad. I'm getting a quite a bit of astringency from the hops that dries out my mouth in the finish.

Mine was phenolic too, I would have believed it was a Belgian IPA if somebody told me that. The bitterness was big, which I like, but I found it a bit harsh. Overall though, I liked the hop flavour and aroma. Thanks!

Nothing more to add that has not already been said. Medicinal on the nose and in the flavour along with a very big bitter finish. Thanks for sharing!

I am a little behind, but really excited to have these beers to try over the holidays. This is such a great activity - so nice to have something to look forward to!
Perfect carb for me, nice mouthfeel.
Agree with the phenolic/belgian comments... a little medicinal/spicy, but not unpleasantly so. Kinda reminded me a little of Unibroue's stuff somehow? Hoppy and nice. Thanks for the share.
