Funny I was just listening to BeerSmith podcast where they were talking about beers like this. Perfect timing. Really well balanced beer. I can taste everything in the recipe. Very surprised to see such a high FG even for that yeast.

Thanks for the brew!

Had this last night. Hops came through more than I was expecting for a Brown but quite enjoyable. Thanks for the beer.

Great beer. Nice balance of malt and hops. I get a nice berry like flavour from the hops. Tasty!

When home brewing was growing in the 90s and early 2000s we would make stuff that was just not available commercially (in the early 90's that was practically anything, haha). All grain brewers back then were often a little heavy handed with the crystal malts and hops, I think just to show that there was more to home brewing than thin-bodied kit and kilo. This recipe is not to style for a brown ale, but is more of an old school home brew version. It's more of a brown or black IPA style that just did not exist back then. Glad you enjoyed!

This beer was really fantastic. I was surprised to see that it's supposed to be an American brown, since it seemed more like a cascadian IPA. Delicious regardless.

I see why I am getting more hops than malts based on other comments. Like everyone said this is a good beer, just not what I expected haha

What a gorgeous head! This was delicious - reminded me a little of a Hill Farmstead James clone I made earlier this year in which I had used similar hops. For a brown ale, not a whole lot of light escaping its grasp... but I'm ok with that. Thanks!Image

I love ahold brown ale and this is a good brown ale. Plenty hoppy, but not at the expense of malt presence. I’m also with LD in getting a bit of berry character. Lovely head, carbonation, and mouthfeel as well. Super interesting to hear the genesis of this recipe as well. Thanks!

Well made beer, lots of carbonation, fluffy head that sticks around, lots of piney/resinous hops, a solid chocolaty/biscuity malt backbone, perfect bitterness balance. Thanks I really enjoyed it!

This reminded me of delicious black IPA I had in California about 5 years ago. After trying that beer, I kept trying other Black IPAs but they just didn't taste the same.

Super tasty, love the caramel sweetness, and the pronounced bitterness that balances it out nicely

We had this beer on Friday - really liked the malt / hop interplay. Sort of reminded me of a Brown IPA the tata did a while back (Tweed Wolf might be the name..) anyway, a very tasty brew!

Just drinking this now (I’m only six days behind now!). I’m really liking this. I’m a big fan of C hops, and the northern brewer was a nice touch as well. Really I’m just glad to drink something that tastes like 20 years ago.
