Vermont Ale Yeast

Post by Markus » Fri Dec 06, 2019 1:43 pm

Does anyone know where I can get some Vermont Ale yeast? Noble Grape doesn’t carry it and Dave has not had it for several weeks(a shipment across the border was sent back).

If not does anybody know the closest substitution? Online suggests several different white labs alternatives but not sure how close they would be. Our keezer needs an NEIPA!

Thanks.

US-05 works pretty well (and I've read that US-04 does as well) - maybe just advantage of the cheap stuff this time around!

WYEAST 1318 or WLP067, but does't look like Everwood has either. If you can find a lower attentuating English yeast you could go with that as well.

Or go with a Kveik strain...its what all the cool kids are doing! :rockin:
On tap: APA, Dubbel, Dark Mild
Fermenting: Brett Saison 2022, Schwarzbier, APA, Sour Brown,
Coming up: American Wheat (Fruited), Vienna Lager, Dortmunder
Bottled: Brett Saison 2020, Brett Saison 2021, Baltic Porter

You can also call up the Burnside Noble Grape and order in yeast too, if the timing is right it can be quick. I called them up a month ago and they had the yeast I wanted in store in under 2 weeks.

Water n Wine in Truro had one pack of Escarpent Vermont Ale a few days ago and were in the process of putting a fresh order in, due to arrive next week. Might be worth a phone call.

I’ve got a fairly sizeable starter of WLP095 going at the moment. I could probably spare ~150 billion cells on Sunday if that would work for you.

I was at Everwood today picking something up and took a look through the yeast fridge and they're low/of most of the NEIPA stains that I was looking for. The last few times I went in looking for a specific yeast for a NEIPA they didn't have any, but I left with a great substitute each time (burlington ale, vermont ale, london fog). I think they're getting some in next week if you can wait, I keep trying to get a pack of coastal haze, hopefully they get some in.

Thanks guys. I need to make a couple as one of our favourites. As we need to try some different yeasts I think I will wait to see if Everwood has it next week and also take Bert up on his generous offer for a Sunday brew.

Hey, Its Dave

We just put in a large order for both White Labs and The Yeast Bay, should be here by Thursday of this week. I think I got too much Vermont, but Geoff disagrees! We got a lot of the NEIPA yeasts in anticipation of the Garrison Comp So hopefully there is enough for everyone.

Thanks

What were the other yeasts you ordered for NEIPAs?
