Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Hey. Sierra Nevada has posted their pale ale recipe. They state the grain bill in terms of % and not pounds. They have however posted hops in terms of ounces.

Has anyone brewed this? Just wondering if it’s for a 5 gal batch?

Thanks.

Sorry - forgot to mention that.

It’s on their website. If this link doesn’t work just google Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Recipe.

Thanks. It is interesting that they failed to give batch size, or what AA the hops are. One can easily guess that though! I may give this recipe a try.

I've cloned this a few times over the years and it looks pretty much like what the clone recipes online say. Use those ratios for whatever amounts you need to get to around 5.5% and about 40 IBUs.

I feel like the online clones say the bittering hop is nugget but I guess Sierra Nevada knows best!

I brewed this (5 Gal batch) back in March and its currently on tap.
The reviews (guys on the street) are good.
Bare in mind I'm new to all this and it's my only 5th batch.
Unfortunately, I forgot to properly document my OG so not quite sure what the final ABV was.
Going by the "feel test", I'm guessing somewhere around 5.5% - 6.0%

Sounds good. I spent some time with beer smith this weekend and came up with a combination of two row, crystal 60 and cascade that puts me at this:

American Pale Ale
All Grain (5.50 gal) ABV: 5.60 %
OG: 1.057 SG FG: 1.014 SG
IBUs: 37.4 IBUs Color: 9.0 SRM

My hops just arrived today so I’m looking forward to brewing this one.

Cheers.

Interesting that it's just Cascade in there. They had previously posted on their site that there was Magnum in it. I brewed the BYO recipe and it's currently waiting to be kegged

I've tried to brew Sierra Pale a number of times and have my clone pretty close. One of my favorites. Their hop additions would suit a 5 gallon batch as their recipe is close to my clone recipe. My measures for my clone are below. Next time I will tweak to match there recipe to see if their's is as good as mine! Ha.

32 Litres water treated with 6 grams gypsum and 3 grams calcium chloride at 153°

Grain Bill
5.0 kg 2-row
0.475 kg Crystal 60

Kettle
35 grams cascade whole cone at boil
35 grams cascade ground whole cone at 45 minutes and one irish moss tablet
100 grams cascade ground whole cone at 60 minute flameout

I'm hoping to do a Cascade Pale Ale soon, but can't decide on a hop schedule. I'm aiming for around 40 IBU.

After a bittering addition of around 20 IBU, would you prefer more or less equal additions at 10, 5 and zero, with no dry hop, or at 15 and zero with a dry hop?

I have been leaning to 10, 5, 0 and Dry hop.

IBU from DH is not well calculated by software and tiny.
