December 10 - "English" Red

English Red (perhaps considered an english brown)

Designed as an Irish red but fermented with English yeast

42L batch

Malt:
6.5kg Viking pale
2kg marris otter
1kg caramunich II
.454kg munich
.350kg roasted barley

Mash @ 152 F

Hops:
2 oz EKG (45 min boil) - 15 IBU
1.5 oz EKG (20 min boil) - 8 IBU
1.5 oz EKG (5 min boil) - 3 IBU

Yeast: S-04 fermented at around 17C

OG: 1.052
FG: 1.012
ABV: 5.3%
Kegged: El Dorado IPA, Rocketfuel 2.0, Wet Hopped Pale, Ryrish Red, Marzen, BN Exchange Dunkel, BN Exchange NEIPA, Lies Lies Lies - Citra <0.5% ale
Fermenting: NZ Pilsner with Enigma, Strawberry brett cider

This was delicious. Lovely malt prominence and complexity, spicy/herbal hop character, and a slightly sweet finish. I’ve always had trouble understanding why people love S-04 because I’ve struggled with getting good results but this is an example of someone making it sing. Cheers.

Wonderful beer. I already had a sneak peak so was looking forward to a full bottle. Did not dissapoint.

Blind tasted this and thought it was a Brown Ale. Great colour, breadiness, maltiness and taste. Well done!

Super well balanced, enjoyed this one a lot. Lots of different malty flavours all meshed together well.
