IPA Help

Post by know1 » Fri May 18, 2012 2:10 pm

I've got some ideas of a bold IPA floating around and I'm looking for some feedback.

I haven't put anything into software yet but here's what I'm thinking along the line of:

5gal
Target ABV: 7-8%
Target IBU: ~80

85% Superior Pale Malt
10% Munich
5% special Aromatic

Mash ~151F

For hops I've got Citra, Amarillo, Centennial, (also willamette but thinking no for an IPA)
Any suggestions on what to use when?

I'm thinking Citra/Centennial bittering Citra/Amarillo finishing and citra/amarillo dry hopping
(I'll play with the quantity numbers in beersmith tonight)

I'll probably just pitch a US-05 yeast and is NG the easiest spot to get Gypsum?
Kegged: El Dorado IPA, Rocketfuel 2.0, Wet Hopped Pale, Ryrish Red, Marzen, BN Exchange Dunkel, BN Exchange NEIPA, Lies Lies Lies - Citra <0.5% ale
Fermenting: NZ Pilsner with Enigma, Strawberry brett cider

I'd use all centennial bittering, just because I think Citra is more valuable at the end, and supply is tight. Your hop plan sounds good so far. NG has the gypsum at some locations, so call first.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

That's almost $20/kg. I should be selling the stuff, not giving it away!
