Feedback on Cascade/Chinook IPA
This is my first American IPA, just looking for some feedback on it since it is my first recipe venturing into IPA territory. I chose Chinook since I have quite a bit on hand to get rid of, and I have been thinking about dry hopping with some Amarillo. Any of you guys used these three hops in combination? Any feedback on this would be appreciated.
Batch Size: 5 gal
Boil Size: 6.200 gal
Boil Time: 60 min
Efficiency: 70%
OG: 1.067
FG: 1.013
ABV: 6.9%
Bitterness: 72.9 IBUs
Color: 8 SRM
12lbs Pale Malt (2-Row)
1lb Munich Malt
8oz Medium Crystal
Chinook 1oz 60 Min
Cascade 1oz 45 Min
Cascade 0.5oz 30 Min
Cascade 0.5oz 10 Min
Yeast: Nottingham or US-05, would probably be very good with Wyeast 1056!

Looks like a good beer. Maybe increase those cascade additions to 1 oz each with the 30 minute moved to 5 min. -05 or 1056 for yeast.

Agreed with X. It's a fairly big beer so your 0.5 oz additions will barely be noticeable imo. Specs look good for IBUs, colour etc. I'd change up the hopping a bit to look something a little more like this to get enough hop flavour to balance it out....

By the way, new hop schedule is showing 85IBUs! Very nice! Can't wait to see if I get any kind of blending between the piney and citrus flavours of the hops, or if the Chinooks will be all hidden as bitterness!

In the future, if I wanted to kick this up into Imperial territory, would it be as simple as upping the 2 row, or would I want to increase the whole grain bill in proportion?

I'm jealous your brewing while I have to work. I think you'll get plenty of pine flavor from the chinooks. I would use 1272 for an IPA over notty anyday. I think if you imperialize it you would up the whole grain bill to keep the same percentages but I'm not positive about that one.

I did get a good amount of pine flavour from the Chinooks, but the citrus is still there, which is what I was going for.
I screwed up and dry hopped with pellets, so each pour has a bit of hop flakes in it, this doesn't bother me at all really (I will know better for next time) the biggest problem I had was that I was getting a really slooooow pour from the tap, I knew right away that the extra hops had clogged up the dip tube or poppet... So I cranked the gas up to 30PSI for a little while and thankfully it purged itself of the excess hops without having to disassemble the keg. Whole leaf next time!
This beer did not turn out as clear as most of my beers, but I am pretty happy with it:
