Hammer of Thom IPA

Post by jtmwhyte » Tue Oct 22, 2013 8:05 pm

Looking at doing this one on Thursday or Friday. I'm gonna use spring water from Mt. Thom.

Superior Pale Malt (93%)
Melanoiden Malt (7%)

Columbus (13.9%) 0.5 oz @60
Simcoe (12.9%) 0.25 oz @30
Nugget (13.7%) 0.5 oz @30
Simcoe 0.5 oz @ 15
Nugget 0.5 oz @ 15
Nugget, Simcoe, Columbus and Citra 1 oz each @ flameout. Whirlpool for 15 min.

Dry Hops
Nugget, Simcoe, Columbus and Citra 1 oz each for 5 days.
Nova Prime Taproom
Tap 1: Festa Brew Scotch Ale
Tap 2:
"Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

 Looks good
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Kegged today. Maybe should have named it "Lucky 7 IPA" as it was 1.070, it's 7% abv. and ~77 IBU

This is a VERY good IPA. After dry hopping it's very reminiscent of Uncle Leo's IPA but a percentage point stronger. From now on it's melanoiden and Pale malt for this guy's IPAs

I'm having this beer right now. Not sure how old this one is but it's still holding up very well. Great hop aroma and bitterness. Very nice IPA
