Sounds good to me, maybe a tad too strong for my liking as I like my black IPA around 6%. Warrior, Simcoe and Amarillo sounds yummy, I've used cascade/centennial/citra before and it was pretty good, but my favourite was Summit/Amarillo combo.

I threw my order in with Dave. I don't expect it right away due to some hops not being available. Hoping this turns out, I'm really excited to try it.

I just realized... I'm gonna need a bigger pot, or tone down the dark extract 4 lbs.

Re: 60 minutes in the Dark - Black IPA
You have a recipe? If not I have one for AG and another for extract. I'm hoping to hear from Dave soon to get this started, I've tweeked the above a bit to play with it some.
However that being said I need to drain a keg before I can brew. I'll be running on 4 kegs come Friday and can't seem to find any ball locks.

Are you adding anything at the 15,10, and 5 min marks?

More late additions! Also check out continuous hopping. That hop bill will be nowhere near DFH 60 in hoppiness IMHO.

Re: 60 minutes in the Dark - Black IPA
It is continuous hopping I was just to lazy to add each addition in BS haha
The nugget at 60 is continuously hopped until 35 then the simcoe and and Amarillo are hopped until 0

After reading what nash posted about the Black IPA style, I'm going to revisit the above recipe and make a few adjustments.

Re: 60 minutes in the Dark - Black IPA
ibu's went down while the og went up, not sure if that was on purpose but the ibu's seems low to me. BU:GU ratio is at .68 I'd have it closer to 1
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Agreed, I'd shoot for 80-90IBU. If you are doing a partial boil and then topping up with water I'd probably shoot for closer to 100.LiverDance wrote:ibu's went down while the og went up, not sure if that was on purpose but the ibu's seems low to me. BU:GU ratio is at .68 I'd have it closer to 1

This may sound like a noob question, but when you write "1/4oz Warrior, Simcoe, and Amarillo", do you mean 1/4oz of each? In other words you'll have one addition of 2.25 oz and 5 additions of 3/4oz?

Do you just take the difference between the OG and FG?
