Best Case (Noble Grape) kits boil

I'm looking to make my 4th kit from Noble Grape tomorrow (Best Coast IPA), and I'm just wondering about boil time.
It seems many recipes I read have 60m or longer boils, but the kits are always 30m.
Is this something I can play with? Or should I leave it alone?

I've never heard of a 30 min boil with all grain (I always do 90), but if I'm right and it's extract with seeping grains I think that's fine. In that case it's just what ever your hop additions need and enough time (15 mins) to sanitize the extract.
When I was doing extract brews I did quite a few with 15 min boils and massive hop bursting and they were great. They were all about hops.
The makers of extract have done all your boiling for you.

Yeah, it's an extract. So I steep grains, take em out, get a boil going, add at 30m, 8m, and 1m.

Yes I think so.
ps.
Keith is an expert on this style of brewing. You could pm him with questions if he doesn't show up here. He'll be glad to help out.

These recipes are designed around the 30 minute boil. If you want to fool around with the boil time that is simply up to you.

Duly noted. Thanks for the info, guys. Looking forward to the brew tomorrow! Except I broke my hydrometer...

When I did partials I didn't bother taking gravities...extract recipes are already predetermined...as long as you stick to the suggested water volumes (fermenter top up)

Those kits are designed around a 30 minute boil, however I found they were too sweet for me afterwards and you didn't get take full advantage of the bittering hops during the boil. Basic process I used for those, and also use for my own recipes.
I steeped my grains for 25 minutes (or 90 min partial mash), added the LME, brought to a boil, and once it came to a boil I added my hops, and boiled for 60 mins and depending on what I was looking for added my flavor and aroma hops at different stages.
What is the recipe breakdown? Have you plugged it into Brewers Friend?
http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/r ... alculator/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As that kit calls for a full pound of hops, you may want to adjust the bittering hops if there is a large addition @ the 60 min mark and add them towards the the end.
If you have any questions, my knowledge is limited but I can share my experiences.

I'll have to check that out when I get home! (I forgot I worked, so brewing got bumped back)
I'd like to try a longer boil, I think.
Thanks for the info, all!

I've never used this tool before, but does this look normal?
http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/r ... ome-recipe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It says hops at 30, 8 and 1. If I do 60, do those times on the Brewers Friend make sense? It seems to add up in the calculator.
I'm getting rolling now. Grains are steeping. Planning 25m.

I can't see the link. How many Liter's is your boil and what is your hop schedule?

Sent PM. Schedule calls for 30, 8 and 1. I suggested 60, 30 and 5. I got a green check on the site?

I have just started making these kits and would be interested to hear how the 60min boil turns out.
Which kits have you tried so far?

I forgot I had to work, so it ended up being about at 40m boil, haha. It's in secondary now.
I've made the Cascade, Czech Pils, and the Steam before? I think. I've lost track!

Haha, maybe I'll try a 60 on my next one! Have the Authentic IPA at home waiting to be brewed, and a cascade on right now.
How was the Pilsner?

With the beers I've brewed from those kits I always had great success with a 60 min boil. I never went 30 min. I did in around 6 or 8 of the NG kits.

I'm just shocked that they seemed to have jacked the prices of the kits by 10$ or so. Some of the kits are over45$ I could be wrong but didn't there used to be some that were in the 20$s?

I think all the ones I've bought have been $38?

I get all my kits @ Everwood. Dave offers a handful of no fuss kits that you can order, and he also offers custom kits so you can even do your own recipes, or find a clone of a beer you truly love.
Last time I checked Dave's custom kits are $28.99.

Oh I know but I'm just saying that they've taking a huge bump up in prices since their new brand came out

Just had a Russian Stout made up there, forgot to ask the price before I had it made... $59.99. Everwood my likely next destination.

NG use to have the market, but more options are becoming available, and consumers are starting to see the price difference. Dave will always get my $$$ if he stocks it or can source it.

Sorry gents it's just an unfortunate reality of a growing buisness. Prices have gone up in the market and our running costs have also gone up as well. Don't forget to mention your brewnosers discount in store!

All hail Dave.
For having the guts to start and the energy to keep it going.

I'll have to check him out next time. I like the idea of the 5 gal batches, too. I'm sick of bottling 1-2 bottles with whats left.
