Wow... 111 IBUs...

Is there any special benefit/reason red wheat is used?

I used red wheat as that was what was listed on the web site

Vitals:

Color – Orange

ABV – 7.0%

O.G. – 1.059

Malt – American 2-Row, CaraPils, Caramel 40L, Munich 10L, Red Wheat

Hops – Warrior, Amarillo, Centennial, Simcoe

Thanks, might give this a go next weekend. I don't have red wheat, so I'll use some regular wheat malt instead.

Transferred this brew onto 30g each of Simcoe/Centennial/Amarillo last night to dry hop in the carboy. The transfer tasted and smelled great.

If this turns out good may need to get a sample for a side by side and move it to the escape section.

I got to try LiverDance's Lunch clone at the meeting last night, and damn it was good! I am thinking I may give it a try this weekend, however:

- looks like Red Wheat is out of stock at Dave's. I guess I can just substitute with regular wheat malt?
- Amarillo hops are hard to get, I only have 1oz left. I'm thinking of using that 1oz in the dry hop, and substituting in Cascade for the other additions?

regular wheat malt should be fine and if you need extra amarillo let me know, i'm sure I can cover you for the brew.

Pretty sure I've got a bit of Amarillo I can spare if you need it. And I agree - the clone was good!

So I gave this a try last Sunday, as my first all-grain BIAB - it went pretty well except I messed up the hop additions a bit, and missed the SG by a few points (1.054 vs 1.059). It smells nice, and the airlock is bubbling away like mad - hopefully it tastes good!

Doing a side by side with the real thing right now and I've got to say this is pretty close to the real deal. Here are my thoughts

1.The nose is the same
2.color of the real deal is slightly darker
3. The real deal is slightly less bitter and sweeter.

I'm not sure if the bitterness level seems difference due to the body being slightly less sweet in the clone. Maybe a higher mash temp would balance it out or maybe moving the 45min addition to a 20 min addition. Or maybe I could increase the amount of crystal as that may help out with the color difference as well. Either way I"m really happy with the way this one tuned out compared to the original. :cheers3:

Thanks for posting this recipe, I brewed it a few weeks ago. I tried Lunch for the first time over the summer and it has become my favorite IPA. I swapped half the amarillo with citra as I find amarillo a bit dank (at least the amarillo I got from the local NG is). It turned out fairly well, I'm still waiting for it to fully carbonate.

Sounds good Brian, will have to give this one a go soon. Did you ferment it around 18C?

I have (what I hope is not a stupid) question...I just plugged these number from Liverdance's recipe above into Beersmith, but I am getting nowhere near the numbers (abv - 5.7%, color 6.4, and SG 1.055). What am I doing wrong? I'm really beginning to have a love/ hate (siding on the hate part) relationship with Beersmith.

what are your brewhouse and mash efficiency showing?

70% for brewhouse and Est Mash Eff is 81.6%. I'm using the 18.5 L BIAB equipment profile as this is my first brew with my new brew kettle.

That seems like a large gap, not sure about the brew in a bag setup but maybe check you loss due to trub that would effect the efficiency

finally brewed this up a couple of weeks ago. Transferred it to dry hop just this week. First sample was amazing...the aroma was great! Unfortunately I was off on my gravity...OG was 1.048 and final was 1.010...which takes it to around 5%. Just wondering how long did you dry hop this for?
