This is the ordinary bitter recipe from BSC.

3.63 kg Marris Otter
0.227 kg Crystal 120
0.113 kg Special Roast

34 g Goldings 60 min
14 g Goldings 30 min
14 g Goldings 10 min

wyeast 1028 Londone Ale fermented from 20degC and rose to 24 degC

OG. 1.038
FG. 1.008
3.8% ABV

Just bottled it today and remembered that I had lent my bench top capper to my cousin, so I used my backup red emily capper. Wow those cappers are terrible.

Looking forward to taste this one, when I made it with WGV it tasted like dirty pond water, hopefully yours will be better :D

When I bottled it I tasted it, and I'd say it's more on the biscuity side of the flavour wheel as opposed to the pond water side. But I we'll wait and see how it develops in the bottle.

I've noticed that most of my beers taste biscuity or nutty at bottling time, I'm not sure the reason for that.

You use a lot of victory and Maris otter?

No victory, lots of Marris Otter.

I cheated tonight. Cracked this open 55 minutes early. However mine is flat. Tastes great, has a similar flavor to my ESB. Would love to taste this carbonated.

I designed it to have low carbonation (1 to 1.5 volumes) being an english style. I would recommend drinking it warm (at least 15 degC) and pour it from a good height to stir it up a bit.

As an aside Adam, being as you are a BJCP judge an' all, dry stout is supposed to have a similar low carbonation level. My dry stout got a couple of silvers but every judge penalized it for "low carbonation." I never know how to play this with competitions.

I'm glad you stuck with it and kept carbonation low though. Haven't tried the beer yet, but looking forward to it.

yea it wasn't low carb lol. It was unfortunately no carb, I was looking for even the faintest of bubbles :( Tasted great tho.

Looks like you might have gotten a bad one Keith. I just poured mine and although there is low carbonation it does have some. I'd be happy to give you or anybody else that has got flat ones another.

Mine was flat as well unfortunately. Poured pretty aggressively as well. Seemed like the cap wasn't seated that well on the twist-off bottle.

I see bubbles in yours lol. Which would be low carb. Mine was dead unfortunately. Adam, bring a bottle to the meeting. I'd like to try it again with carbonation. Few others that wouldn't have tried it yet.

The aroma on this is fantastic! Easy drinking beer. I'm not totally familiar with bitters, so I can't say much about how well it hit the style, but it was quite enjoyable. Thanks!

Mine has the same carb level as Jeff's. Looks like half as much as your's Adam based on the head. Nice earthy flavor from the ekg hops and a great slight roast flavor from the malt. Solid Bitter, it's disappearing quickly

Mine was about the same carb level as Jeff/Brian. Despite the lack of carbonation, it was a tasty beer.

Typical English winter day out there, raining like old BillyOh. Just the right kind of day for a pint of bitta.

Lovely beer. I’m very tempted to say my bottle was flat so I can get another one, but the carbonation was just right, well maybe could be slightly more.

Englishman approved.

Thanks very much Adam.

ps. Kathleen says "thinnish in the mouthfeel but absolutely perfect in the flavour, warm, hoppy, nutty, just lovely."

I think the style is supposed to be "thinnish in the mouthfeel"

Mine had carbonation but lighter than some photos show. Very tasty though. Nice mouthfeel from the light carbonation with the malty flavours mixed well.

Mine isn't completely flat, but it's low, like it probably should be. I like it, it's got a nice caramel malt flavour that stops short of being sweet, and I like the fruitiness. I do think it could use a touch more bitterness in the finish, but that hasn't stopped me from drinking half of it in the time it took to post this. If definitely drink another!

In my pic posted above, I did pour quite agressively to get 1 or 2 cm of head in a shaker glass. If you would pour "normal" you probably wouldn't see a head. The way I tell the difference between a flat and a low carbed beer is when you are drinking if if you swish it through your mouth you should feel some carbonation on a low carbed beer. In a flat beer you will get nothing. If I make this beer again, I'll probably up the carbonation a bit, but still keep it in the low range.

Mine tasted awesome, lower carb than I would have liked (nearly flat not low) but the taste is amazing

I liked it. Would have liked a bit more carbonation - mine was nearly flat. The cap came off easier than expected, which may have been the carbonation issue

Really low carb on mine, but a nice caramel malty flavor.

Just drinking this one now. A bit malty for me, but still very tasty. Mine too is under-carbed, but reading through this thread first allowed me to pour carefully and not loose any carb so it still fizzes on my tongue. I'm going to pack a few orders and enjoy this one!
