So i've decided to get into the brewing game but want to start with one gallon batches until i have some more experience under my belt. I also want to try and make a beer my wife likes so she can agree that getting into 5 gallon batches make sense.
here is the recipe i found :
Batch Size (Gallons): 5.5
Original Gravity: 1.046
Final Gravity: 1.011
IBU: 14
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 14
Ingredients
Amount Item Type
5.00 lb Pilsner (2 Row) Bel
3.00 lb Wheat, Flaked
1.00 lb Oats, Flaked
1.00 lb White Wheat Malt
0.50 oz Cascade (45 min) Hops
0.50 oz Cascade (10 min) Hops
0.18 oz Orange Peel, Bitter (Boil 15.0 min)
0.18 oz Orange Peel, Sweet (Boil 15.0 min)
0.35 oz Coriander Seed (Boil 15.0 min)
1 Pkgs Belgian Wit Ale (White Labs #WLP400) Yeast-Wheat
Mash Profile
Mash Grain Weight: 10.00 lb
Sparge Temperature: 168.0 F
Sparge Water: 3.79 gal
Name Description Step Temp Step Time
Protein Rest Add 10.00 qt of water at 131.1 F 122.0 F 30 min
Saccrification Add 7.00 qt of water at 208.0 F 154.0 F 30 min
Mash Out Direct Heat to 168.0 F over 2 min 168.0 F 10 min
im i safe to say that i divide the ingredients by 5 for a one (1.1) Gallon batch??
My question would be how much water to use for Mash and how much for sparge?
i tried playing around in Beersmith but i don't see where i can scale down a recipe to a one gallon....any help would be greatly appreciated.
